john hastily trotted out of the horrid, and dull algebra 2 class once the bell blared in the room.

he just wanted to get mr. mazzello's monotone voice saying: "factoring polynomials is..." out of his head.

john felt bad for the math teacher. although the teacher swears he cherishes the complicated—to john—subject, he sure doesn't act like it.

he took a mental sigh of freedom once he exited out of the math class.

the young student walked down the hallway, then turned on his heel, realising that he was going the opposite direction of where he was supposed to be going: lunch.

he came upon his locker and twisted the dial, going through all of the motions to unlock it.

"damn it..." john's face scrunched up in frustration as he pulled on his lock that didn't budge.

with irritation and slight embarrassment, he glanced around the hallway, finding that he was close to being the only one in the almost empty hallway.

"stupid lock..." he mumbled, repeating the same procedure for his lock again—praying that he'll get it right this time.

"hey john." a sweet, familiar voice rang out.

john heard the person call his name, but he just wanted to open his locker.

he yanked on his lock once again, praising silently once he saw and heard the accustomed 'click' noise.

he turned his head and saw a brunette girl rocking back and forth on her feet, smiling brightly at him.

"hi ronnie." john beamed back, opening his locker to get his lunchbox.

"how are you today?"

john responded with a cheerful "good". he grabbed the item from his locker, shut it, and asked, "how about you?"

together, they walked down the hallway towards the cafeteria while rambling off into a small talk, listening to each other and replying with a laugh, a nod, or a simple sigh and 'same'.

"oh! so i saw freddie's story yesterday." veronica playfully nudged john's upper arm, "you in his hoodie? that's quite adorable."

john's face flushed, "yeah...about that..."

their ears were immediately filled with roaring laughter or idiotic conversations as they took notice that they had entered the cafeteria.

"don't be ashamed." veronica laughed, "i think you guys are cute together-, like you guys actually look like you belong with each other—unlike these other weird couples." she rolled her eyes.

john followed the girl to her table with her small set of friends: dominique and chrissie.

"are you and freddie together?" dominique blurted out, darting up out of her chair and pointing a finger at him.
