"Ah, yes. Students, welcome your new classmate. He'll be replacing Samuel Adams for the rest of the year."

"What?" a girl protests. Ah, Kristy. Everyone knows about her crush on him, even Sam himself. He's rejected her so many times, but she's kind of... strange. She won't accept it, and it's been the same since year eight.

No one else really cares. I mean, Sam's nice, and has average looks. He's alright. Doesn't really do it for me.

"But...Sam's not moving schools, is he?"

Ms Saunders glances at her with pity, and sighs. "No, he's just moving to extension Maths. Now quiet please, Kristy."

Kristy makes a face and slumps in her chair. "Now what's the point of Maths?" she mutters.

I honestly feel sorry for her. She's so determined to be with Sam, and I used to be just like her.

As our new 'classmate' moves into the classroom, I avoid all eye contact. Ms Saunders gestures for him to take the seat next to Kristy, Sam's old seat. She glares at him as he sits down, while practically every other girl is drooling at his sight.

Excluding me. In my defence, I've already had my share of his saliva, and I'm over it now. I'm different.

"Um... miss?" Georgie raises her hand. "I forgot my textbook."

Ms Saunders grumbles, and looks around. "Anyone willing to share their textbook?"

I would, but I don't have mine either, plus it would ruin my plan. To get Jax to share his with me. Step 3: Physical contact.

Kristy raises her hand, obviously not wanting any other guy to take Sam's spot. "Georgie, swap with Hunter," Ms Saunders says, exasperated.

Georgie sets her lips into a tight line, shares a grim expression with me, and moves next to Kristy. The guy who was sitting next to her watches as she walks away and mutters under his breath. Damn, I guess she'll have to flirt with him another time.

Then I realise what this means. Hunter takes the spot next to me and the teacher goes back to her sad life of teaching.

Hunter leans over. "So, are we just going to pretend nothing ever happened?"

I grit my teeth and roll my eyes. "Nothing happened. We had a moment and it's over."

He recoils, as if taken aback. "So you just decided that you wanted to be popular now?" I swear under my breath, wondering how I'm going to answer that.

I can see Jax getting annoyed by him taking my attention. He leans over, closer. "Hey, want to use my textbook?"

I beam at him. "Thanks!"

I lean over and pretend to start copying down the questions. Jax gives Hunter a smug smile. But Hunter isn't giving up. He moves his desk over an inch. "So what, now you just don't like me anymore?" he whispers. He sounds genuinely hurt, and I feel bad.

"Bro, she's made it clear she doesn't like you. Get over it," Jax retorts.

Hunter moves back, giving me a look, and mutters, "I thought you were better than this."

My heart shatters into pieces. I glance at Hunter, letting my eyes linger on him for more than I should. Exploring those beautiful dark eyes one more time.
