Libbys POV
After gathering myself together and having a little pep talk to myself in the mirror, I was ready for my first class of the day... Sociology. The class was only a few doors down from the bathroom, I arrived with two minutes to spare but apparently that was classed as late as everyone else was already seated.
'You must be Libby' The lady, whom I'm assuming is the teacher, stood up from behind her desk and walked over to me
'I'm Ms Patrick' She said to me 'Everyone this is Libby, she is from...'
'Torquay' I answered her
'Beautiful place of the country. Please make her feel welcome. Sit anywhere that's free' I quickly glanced around the room to see there were a few spare seats but I took the closest one to the wall.
'Okay class, today we will be continue to discuss gender. How does ones gender effect their chance at certain job roles?' Ms Patrick seemed to ask the whole class an waited to see who would speak up first
'Nothing will effect me, I can do whatever' A girl answered a few tables down. I looked over to where the voice came from. This girl sat with confidence, with her big gold hoops and clearly dyed blonde hair
'Isn't there facts that show men are shown to have more success in moving up to a more management role than a woman' I spoke out loud and felt everyone's eyes turn on me
'I don't care, I can do anything, my daddy will make sure of it' This girl replied, there were a few sniggers from around the room
'So you're admitting you need a male to help?' I replied, I could see the other pupils heads twisting between the two of us as if they were watching a tennis match. For the first time we looked at one another, I may be new but the teacher asked for a discussion so I was going to voice my opinion.
'Excuse me...'
'Okay Ladies' The teacher interrupted us as the discussion was starting to heat up. I could see all the other pupils looking at one another as if this was the most exciting things to happen in a while. Ms Patrick had decided that was the end of the pupils discussing the subject and she continued the lesson with a power point.
After leaving sociology class I gathered my bag from the floor and headed straight to my maths class. This class was a little less dramatic, I decided to sit on the back row and get on with the paper Mr Murray had given us. He reminded me of my old teacher, with his round stomach and bald head, I could already tell he was one of those teachers who didn't actually teach but give the students papers to teach themselves.
'Hey' 'Excuse me' 'Hellooo' I heard someone yelling from the other side of the hallway but I continued to walk to the canteen. I felt a hand on my shoulder and froze. It can't be him, surely he wouldn't confront me in public. Since I moved to London, I feel my heart has never stopped beating with nerves. It began to calm down when a girl, slightly short than me, jumped in front of me. I'm assuming this was the girl who had been shouting down the hallway. She had a huge smile on her face and looked very stylish, with round glasses on her face, I was unsure if they were real or for fashion.
'Hey, sorry I didn't realise you were shouting for me' I replied
'No worries, you heading to the canteen?' She asked, as I nodded my head in response she instantly linked arms with me and began walking in the direction of what I believe was the canteen. 'I'm Melissa by the way'
'Libby'
'Oh I know, I heard the way you through digs at Chantelle. Classic. No one has ever talked to her like that' She laughed
'Queen bee' We both laughed and for the first time since arriving in London I felt my shoulders relaxed. It was nice to have someone besides me or else the next year would be miserable.
We entered the canteen through double wooden doors to screaming noise. It was like everyone had been let loose, there was noise coming from all corners of the room, some people were standing, some were walking, some were dancing. The plastic chairs didn't look the most comfortable and there were large groups hanging around the tables. Melissa let go of my arm but I continued to follow her to the table ahead, I could only see the back of their heads but it seemed she was heading towards a table with three boys. I walked around the table to take a seat opposite them but before pulling the chair, I made eye contact with the boys. The one at the top of the table, looked friendly, as he smiled widely at me. However, the boy next to him looked the opposite, his eyes were throwing daggers at me and then I turned my face to... him!
You have got to be kidding me!
'Libby this is Luke, Brandon and Flynn. Guys this is Libby' So he's called Flynn. For once, it wasn't him I was worried about, it was the guy next to him. I sat down and smiled weakly but there was no emotion on his face. He looked very familiar, maybe he was in one of my classes this morning but I didn't look at many of my classmates faces. Melissa sat down closest to Luke and give him a kiss, I'm assuming their dating but it would be rude to judge considering I have only known these people for a few minutes.
'I hope you guys had something important to do to miss sociology today but Libby here totally put Chantelle in her place' She said to Flynn and Brandon. So he was suppose to be in the same class as me, he was with me only a few minutes before class so where had he gone. Melissa continued to tell the guys the story, as I took in my surroundings, I was suddenly no longer hungry and din't want the food my mum had made me this morning.
'You coming to the game on Wednesday Libby?' Luke asked taking me out of my trance
'Game?'
'It's the first football game of the season' He replied as if I should have known. The instant I walked in the building I knew sports played a huge part
'I dunno, I'm not really a football fan' I replied
'So, everyone goes'
'Yeah. Luke plays defender so you can sit with us and cheer him on. Right guys?' Luke didn't seem like your typical football player, maybe it was the lip piercing or the fact that he was not sitting with the rest of the team. When Melissa used the word 'us' I'm guessing she means Flynn and Brandon.
Brandon suddenly flew his chair back from the table, silencing us all. He give me one last glare before storming out of the canteen
'What's got his pants in a twist today?' Luke asked no one in particular. Flynn hadn't said a word the whole of lunch. I was beginning to think it was a bad idea to sit on this table. Without a word he left the table, to follow after Brandon, I'm assuming. I knew I needed to make some friends during my time in London, or it was going to be a long lonely year, but the problem was trying to find people like me. I quietly said goodbye to Melissa and Luke and decided to have a wonder around the college before finding my next class. As I was walking along the corridor, I could hear voices arguing, I assumed it was just a lovers tiff but as I gained closer I realised it was two male voices, even more so I recognised one of them
'Why the fuck didn't you kill her?' I heard someone whisper angrily
'I've got it under control'
'Really because she saw you kill someone and she is still flaunting around' He replied sarcastically
'Leave it Brandon, she's a little prissy who wouldn't dare say anything' That's why I recognised him! He was the guy who was with Flynn in the alleyway. I thought it was Flynn who I should be worried about but I'm starting to think it's anyone in this city. I didn't want to listen to any more, or get caught, I gripped onto my bag with my head down and headed to my next class.
