One day the brothers approached my dad and asked him to join their gang known as The Firm. At first he denied it. He really didn't want to get wrapped up in that crime world. But after a while he started thinking about it. If he joined, our family would be under more protection than before and even though we were doing good. Dad was fearing the worst. He just wanted us to have a long life without much worry. So he did take the offer under one condition. Sarah, Les, and I were to be under full protection from any harm that would come. As true men, the Krays kept their word to my father until they died.

Once dad joined he had to start going to a lot of meetings at 178 Vallance Road. There was a problem when the meetings took place. It was usually when school was out and he didn’t want us to be left at someone’s house again or leave us on our own. Which meant he had to bring the three of us along with him. Again Dad didn’t want to bring us a lot of the time but he preferred this then leaving us. For a compromise Reg promised him that their mother, Violet, would watch after us while they did business.

We absolutely loved staying with her. Violet was a very kind woman. She always had a bright smile on her face no matter what, it was very comforting to me. She was the kindest woman I have ever met. I never heard her talk ill about anyone and she always told us to not talk ill of anyone no matter who they were. I often thought of her as my own mother because of how much she taught me when I was younger. We learned a lot of respect from her as well how to bake like no one’s business.

That's how she kept us preoccupied. She often had us prepare the snacks for the members of the group. Sarah would assemble everything while I cut it up and laid everything else. And Les would help us hand the snacks out. By the time Sarah was fourteen and I was twelve, we could bake any type of sweet by heart. We hardly ever used recipes after a year of spending time with Violet. Sometimes she would take us back to her house and let us listen to the radio until Dad came to pick us up. Those days happened on rare occasions though, it was only when the Firm would have a huge meeting about private things. So for those meetings she had to take us somewhere else, which we didn’t mind too much.

When Sarah was fifteen and I was thirteen our dad finally thought it was time to teach us how to protect ourselves and Les who was eleven at the time. We first learned how to load a gun, how to carry it properly, how to use it correctly and how to clean it under a minute. Dad made sure we always had our guns with us because we were very young beautiful girls and there are very dirty old men out there who don’t know morals. Later when Les was fourteen years old Sarah and I taught him the way our dad taught us how to handle guns.

Reg and Ron also came to us (well Sarah originally but I ended up tagging along) to ask us to be the eyes and ears of the firm. We were to report anything suspicious happening, obviously Sarah agreed and I just went along to keep my sister safe. We never told our father about this agreement we had with the brothers because we didn’t want him to get upset.

This agreement Sarah and I had really bonded us together and made us a stronger duo. We learned how to do everything together. No matter what it was the other one would always be there. We really were dependent on each other once we started this little job. She was my other half. We were so attached to each other that we just couldn't be split apart from each other or one of us would have a severe panic attack. It was quite scary for everyone around us but they figured out just keep us together and nothing bad would happen.

It was really bad at school, because we were a year apart in school which meant we had different schedules. Our attacks got really terrible to the point they moved me up to her classes. I was smarter than everyone in my year and it would stop the constant episodes we were causing. The panic attacks soon eased and we began to excel even more. We ended up sharing everything.
