Chapter 7

"Have you ever wondered what would happen if you just disappeared one day?" Demi said while we were looking at the stars at our hideout. It was a gorgeous night and the moon shone so brightly it was the only light I had and could use to see Demi's face. I furrowed my eyebrows at her question. What made her think of this?

"Not really. Why?" I asked her.

"I was just wondering. I mean if I disappeared without any warning or note would you come and find me?" Of course I would find her! I would go through the ends of the earth to find my best friend! What kind of question was that! 

"Of couse I would Demi. What kind of question is that? I would go through the ends of the earth to find you and I wouldn't stop until I found you. You're my best friend and you mean a lot to me" Now she turned around on the log we were sitting on and faced me while she crossed her legs pretzel style.

"Would you really?"

"Yes most definitely. I wouldn't give up until I found you. I promise. What made you bring this up?" 

"It was a news story. This little girl got kidnapped and her family and the police searched everywhere for her. Her family was worried sick and they went searching for her for months. They went for months until recently they found her dead. It just made me wonder would people be worried about me if I went missing? Would people even notice? Would people search and search until they found me or would they just give up after a few months? I don't know I mean that story just made me wonder about what would happen and how would people react if that happened to me" She fiddled with her fingers while staring down at her lap.

"I can assure you Demi your family would be worried sick and so many people would start looking for you. I would for sure. I promise I would go through the ends of the earth and I won't stop until you're home" I lifted her chin so she was looking at me. She smiled at me and gave me a hug which I gladly returned. She let go of the hug but I felt it was too soon to let go. I could slowly feel myself falling for my best friend and I don't know how to feel about that.

"Thank you Joe. That means a lot to me." She wiped some stray tears with the back of her hand. We stayed there making small conversation while looking up at the stars. We were talking about school the next day and how we feel about school so far.

"We better start going before it gets too late" I got up from the log we were sitting on. Demi groaned as she held her hands out to me.

"Help me up" I playfully rolled my eyes and helped her up. She got on her feet and we started going back to our homes with one small flashlight we always carried with us. We said our goodbyes before going back to our homes. We hugged again and I hugged her tightly not wanting to let go and she did the same.

The next morning I walked to my locker grabbing the books I needed for my first class. I closed my locker and saw Taylor standing there. I jumped back a little startled as she lightly laughed.

"Sorry I didn't mean to scare ya there. Are you alright?" She put her hand on my bicep as I felt the warmth of her hand on me which I liked. I smiled at her.

"Yeah I'm fine just taken back is all" She smiled at me again and it made my insides flutter.

"Great. So I was wondering if you wanted to study after school today for our science test tomorrow at my place? I'm having trouble in physics and I don't really understand it" This time she rubbed her hand up and down my arm while she batted her lashes at me. I will admit Taylor is pretty cute. Am I developing a crush on her? And the way she rubbed my arm with her hand sent shivers down my spine. I cleared my throat before I answered.

"Um can I let you know after lunch?"

"Yeah of couse you can I really hope-" She was about to say before she got interupted.
