Spearmint shifted.
She looked down at her kits - her three, strong, healthy, wonderful kits - One ginger girl, One tabby girl, and a grey tom
The sound of approaching pawsteps made her look up, only to see her mate.
"They're perfect." He purred, lowering himself to stare at them in awe.
She nodded. "What do you want to name them, Fog?" she asked, although perfect name ideas were forming in her head.
Fog studied her. "How about you name the she-cats, and I name the tom?" He suggested.
Spearmint breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright. The ginger shall be named Cherry, and the tabby will be called Basil."
"Good names. The grey tom will be named Storm."
"Good name." the small calico mother lowered her head. "You will grow up, and will be the most amazing cats in the city," she whispered.
Fog stood up. "It's late. He some sleep." he walked away.
Spearmint lowered her head on to her fluffy bed. "Nothing will ever happen to you." she promised.
Storm prodded her belly with one tiny paw and mewled loudly.
The calico mother laughed softly and slipped into a dreamless sleep.
When she woke up, her housefolk were standing over her.
They made happy noises, and Spearmint purred. "This is Cherry, Storm, and Basil," she explained.
Suddenly two more Housefolk barged in.
Spearmint bristled, her ears flat. She didn't recognize these two, and she immediately didn't like them.
They grabbed her, and put in a strange monster.
It was square, with metal teeth that swung open and closed. It also had an object that the Housefolk held onto (It's a cat carrier)
"Hold on!" Spearmint yowled. "My kits are back there! How dare you grab me?!"
Her housefolk leaned and and mad sad noises.
"No!" she shrieked, clawing at the metal teeth. "Don't let them take me away!"
She was thrown into the back of a monster, to be joined by Fog a second later.
"Spearmint?" He cried. "What are you doing here? Where are the kits?"
"They took me away from them!" Spearmint felt guilt seep into her mind.
"And you didn't think to grab them?" Fog shouted.
Spearmint snarled. "They picked me up before I could grab them!"
Fog winced. "Sorry. I just ..."
Spearmint reached a paw trough the teeth. "It's okay. The kits are independent, they will be fine on their own. At least we have each other."
Fog nodded silently, and curled up, tucking his tail over his nose.
Spearmint bristled as the monster started shaking and roaring. Then it lurched forward and onto the highway.
"Why did this have to happen?" she yowled to no one in particular. "Just when I was settling in, you separate me from my kits? What have I done?!"
She slashed her claws furiously at the metal teeth, but it did no damage. She slashed her claws again, yowling each time until she collapsed into an exhausted pile of misery.
"Why...?" she sobbed.
The monster stopped, and the strange housefolk opened the compartment inside.
He made a sad sound, and pushed a little treat through the bars.
Maybe this isn't SO bad. She thought, even though she was still missing her kits.
The housefolk made a happy sound, and reached out a hand to pet her through the teeth.
Spearmint purred, happily rubbing against the hand.
After the Housefolk closed the compartment, the monster lurched to life again. Spearmint started counting the seconds. After 3021 seconds, the compartment opened again, an two strange housefolk took the seconds again.
"Whahuh?" Fog jolted upright, blinking sleep away from his bleary eyes.
"They're taking us somewhere." The calico she-cat whispered to her mate.
Fog frowned and hissed.
Spearmint watched as they Housefolk pushed open two doors, with pictures of dogs and cats on them.
She gasped as she saw rows of little metal-teethed monsters lining the walls. Old cats, young cats. Old dogs, young dogs. Although, she noticed none of them looked too misrable.
The housefolk plopped the little metal-teethed monsters on a desk, and Spearmint and Fog listened as they chattered.
The Placefolk nodded, and took the monsters that Spearmint and Fog were trapped in into a different room.
She chattered something soothing as they took a tube with a pointy end. The Female Placefolk reached towards Fogs monster, and the teeth swung open. She did the same for Spearmint.
Spearmint leaped out.
The Placefolk laughed, and pushed the tube towards her, pricking her skin.
Spearmint suddeny felt sleepy, and lay down for a rest. "Immajustgonnahavanap." she muttered to Fog.
Then everything went black.
