Chapter 2

The girl started at me in shock like she had just seen a serial killer. She stood up and looked me up and down, her confused frown turning into a small smile.

I scratched the back of my neck as she took my arm and I quickly pulled away. "Look, I'm sorry but how do you know my name?"

She furrowed her eyesbrows and bit at her nails in concentration. Her cheeks were flustered and turned a light shade a pink. She was either agitated or anxious, but for what?

She recomposed herself and went back to her table, quickly scribbling something on a sheet of paper and folding it. The brunette stood up and cleared her throat. She held out her hand and plastered a warm smile on her face. "Hi, I'm Maddox Tristan. If you're wondering how I know you, I've seen you around campus. Uh- you are very known because of your....girlfriend." She stammered our the last part as her eyes looked like they broke.

I nodded and took the note from her and smiled. "Flynn Hickley, and I guess I'm very popular? My girlfriend Brooklyn is captain of the soccer team and a RA for freshmen."

She rubbed her arm and nodded, slouching her shoulders and rocking on her heels. Her friend took notice of her behavior and grabbed her shoulder. "I'm Arielle, Maddox's friend. Come on Max," she pushed her friend back to the table. "Let's get back to studying and let the boy go back to his friends."

I smiled at the girl and walked back to the other side of the center, putting the note in my pocket and and fiddling with the corners. Brooklyn smiled as I sat down and ran her fingers through my hair. "Who was that?"

"Some girl who thought she knew me from somewhere. It was a miscommunication." I laughed off the awkward subject, not wanting to talk about it anymore.

She nodded and glanced over at the table where the two girls where, turning my face and pecking my lips. She beamed and looked at her phone before sighing heavily. "I do NOT want to go to Civ today. It just notes, nothing but talking and notes," she crossed her arms as Molly snickered.

I chuckled a little as Chase stood up, pushing in his chair as Adam followed.  Guess it's that time already.  Brooklyn grabbed my hand and waited as I got my belongings together and stood up.  She pulled me to the side door, giving a smile to Maddox while walking out.

She turned to me and clasped her hands. "You, me, study date tonight?" She smirked, tilting her head a little.

I raised an eyebrow and mentally facepalmed, getting the idea.  I nodded once and pulled on the strings of my backpack.  She came over and pecked my lips, skipping off happily.  I rocked on my heels, feeling very uneasy.  I shook off the feeling and started walking to Chem.  Why am I feeling weird about hooking up with my girlfriend?

Walking back towards the instructional complex, I put my hands in my pockets, immediately feeling the folded piece of paper that Maddox girl handed me.  I checked my watch and noticed I had twenty minutes till class, and only a seven minute walk.  I headed to a nearby shaded area and sat down at a vacant table, pulling out the paper and unfolding it.

Flynn,
I don't know if you'll remember me, but I have a lot of explaining to do.  Please call me when you are available, we don't have much time. (***)-***-****
