“I thought you said you were heading home because it was getting late,” mocked a honeyed voice.

It was Lia. The person I least wanted to talk to or even see.

“I got locked out of my house and Collin is the only one who can get me in.”

“Well you’re out of luck. Collin just left a few minutes ago. He went to go pick up Lexi.”

“Oh. I should call and ask him where he has the key to my house,” I said as I quickly walked away.

For some reason, Lia giggled.

I dialed Collin; I heard his ringtone coming from where Lia was.

“I wanted to tell you that Collin left his phone with me, but you walked away before I could tell you,” shouted Lia.

She began to walk towards me.

“We never properly introduced. My name is Lia,” She said as she extended her hand. “I noticed that you’ve been avoiding me so I just want to let you know that I don’t bite. ”

I extended my hand to shake Lia’s. “My name is Chase. And, I haven’t been avoiding you.”

Honestly, I had been trying to avoid Lia. Not only was I embarrassed about what I had done the night of Collin’s party, but for some reason, I felt something weird yet warm when I saw Lia. My chest feels really tight, my stomach feels queasy, and I get really nervous.

“It’s cold. We should go sit closer to the fire,” Lia said.

Lia and I began to talk to one another as is we already knew each other for years.

After about half an hour, Lexi walked over to us.

Lexi greeted us. “Hey, Chase. Hey, Lia.”

Lia and I replied in unison. “Hey, Lexi.”

“Chase, I’m going to take Lia away from you for a few minutes.”

Before I could say anything, Lia and Lexi were walking away.

“Chase? I thought you were going home. Is everything alright?”

It was Collin. He sounded worried.

“Everything’s alright. Well, except for one thing. I got locked out of my house.”

“Did you leave your house keys on the kitchen counter again?” Asked Collin mockingly.

“Yeah.” I chuckled.

“I have my key in my room,” Collin said as he walked inside.

Once Collin gave me the key and I said my goodbyes again, Lia wasn’t there anymore so I guess she left when Collin and I were inside.

I began to walk towards my car when I heard someone crying. I looked around but didn’t see anyone. As I got closer to my car, I saw who was crying. It was Lia.

“Lia? What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nn-nothing’s wrong,” Lia stuttered as she tried to make it seem as if she wasn’t crying.

After talking with Lia for a few minutes, I had found out why she was crying.
