I woke up in a bed. An ache pulsed in my head as my my eyes fluttered open.
"Fuck!" I blurted clutching the area of pain. As soon as I saw the cotton sheets, I bolted upright. They got me!
I looked around the room in a haze. It didn't look familiar at all, though it could have been a different room to one I stay in.
'No, it can't be the house. It looks too rustic.' I thought carefully. Lady Devil would never allow such untreated furniture to live in peace.
'No! I'm thinking too deeply. Of course I'm in the house, it is probably the maids room.' I tell myself, I needed to be realistic in such a situation. 'I've been caught. Only, what happens next?'The doorknob shook as my heart pounded. 'This is it!' I thought, fear taking over once again. As it opened, a young man entered. His face lit up when he saw me awake.
"You're up!" He called, flustered. He lean and fairly tall, with pale skin dark eyes and wavy chestnut hair. I observed him with bewilderment. 'I've never seen him before, who is he?'
For a moment we were both silent. I stared at him apprehensive while he glanced from me to the floor in a nervous matter. I finally broke the silence.
"Were you sent to take me to her?" I asked. He looked puzzled.
"Take you to whom?" He responded, appearing more confused than I was.
"If not," I pressed "were you sent to check it I was still alive?"
He chuckled nervously, and sat on the bed next to me.
'Personal space is clearly not an issue to this stranger.'
"I wasn't worried about you dying, don't you fear about that." He smiled, "I was worried I'll admit. You were out cold of course, but I didn't fear the worst."
He pondered for a moment and gently caressed my head.
"It seems your head is much better, you're not struggling to hold yourself or speak." He stated delighted.
'So he was the one who found me, but then he must have been sent by her. I imagine a whole team of people searched the woods last night by her order.'
"Were you called to find me? Or does she happen to have a team of searchers on standby?" I inquired, a little too aggressively.
He was taken aback by this and removed his hand hastily.
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean miss, I don't know who you speak of." The stranger explained.
I couldn't have believed it, I was found in the night; it was clearly day outside and I was found in the wood. A wood, that was not close to a largely populated area. If I was to be found it would have been by her and her paid off goons. Yet he looked just as bewildered as me, I couldn't see any acknowledgement in his eyes that he knew a word I was talking about.
'Could I have been wrong?' I pondered.
"Where am I?" I asked, feeling my heart sink; as I was sure what answer I would be given.
"At an Inn not far from city, I found you in the perfidious wood." He stated, "Luckily I found you, you could have had a far worse fate if someone else had."
"So no one was baffled by the sight of you carrying a unconscious girl to an Inn?" I challenged.
"Yes, it does sound rather worrying when put like that." He confessed, "But this area is full of ruffians and people, with little to no care about the safety of the vulnerable; especially in those woods. People would think you wanted to be attacked or worse." He added, scratching his head.
"What were you doing in there?" He pressed.
I stammered. 'If I tell him, he could take me back or alert them of my location. I can't risk him knowing which I am. He's just a stranger, I can't trust him!'
"That is not your concern sir, but I am extremely grateful you didn't leave me in the woods." I answered.
"I'm glad I could help," He smiled, "but please, call me Ren."
'Ren,' I repeated in my mind 'are you an enemy or my hero?'
