It was damn near 3:30 am and I still haven't slept yet. Typical insomnia. Ever since I moved into this wretched city, sleeping has kinda been one of my worst enemies. Call me crazy but, it always feels like someone or quite possibly something was watching me. This feeling has been occurring for the past couple of days, and I only moved into the city almost a couple weeks ago. Not because I wanted to, but this was the only place with affordable apartments. It wasn't much but just enough for me and my canine companion: Hellsing.

I'm Magnolia by the way. But call me Maggie. Not exactly sure as to why my parents didn't just name me that in the first place...Magnolia. Pft.

Anyways, I do digital art for a living and I'm very proud of what I do. I had been interested in art, especially graphic art, since I was in 5th grade...thanks to the internet.
I also work at a pet resort part time, and being with animals was very therapeutic for me. Basically, my life was actually headed in the right direction until the strange feeling came over me. I've been staying up too late, jumping at every small sound, I even slept with the lights on sometimes. My gut was trying to tell me something.
Something that wasn't..right.

I roll over on my back groaning loudly, alerting the sleeping mound of fur next to me. I looked over at the ebony shepherd as his amber eyes looked straight into mine. Giving a soft smile, I lazily raise my arm and rub his cheek. He gave my wrist a soft lick.
"I'm okay, Hellsing. I promise." And with that, Hellsing curled up right beside me. Soon sending me off into a peaceful sleep...

Or so I thought...

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

I awoke to Hellsing growling at a tapping sound that seemed to have been coming from outside my window.
"Hrm..Hellsing. What is it, boy?" I said gruffly between tendrils of messy, strawberry blonde hair. I got up from my warm and cozy bed to the feeling of a disgustingly cold hardwood floor against my bare feet. I hissed as I reached over to the blinds, peeking out between two shrubs and a small tree branch. I couldn't see whatever was making that tapping sound, but what I could see chilled me to the bone.

Standing about a yard away was what seemed to be a man, maybe about several inches taller than me. And he was wearing a black trench coat that hugged his scrawny form. "God, and they tell me that I should gain weight..." I said between closed teeth.
He seemed to be staring in my direction, waiting for something...watching intently.
My whole body seemed to have frozen completely when I saw that he was carrying two blades about the length of my forearm. Pretty good sized, perhaps. I noticed blood slowly dripping from them.
Oh christ..he got to someone.
It couldn't have been in this complex, could it? My heart started racing. Panicking, I back away from the window and clutch my sleep shirt in fear. Who was this guy? Was he the reason I was having those strange feelings?
I watched as he gave a vicious grin, then he lifted a steel toed boot and walked away into the night. Then that was it. I looked over at Hellsing; the fur on his back was rising, his ears were flat against his head, and his tail was tucked in between his legs. He has never EVER acted this way. Not around me, at least.
I huffed slightly as I slowly sat down on my bed then slowly moving in for a fetal position.

So my gut was right...
