Lukas quickly walked to his room, wanting to avoid any further contact with people. He had a promise to keep and so he did not want to be late today.

Locking the door behind him, he ran to his window and peaked his head out, looking down at the ground. He smiled and felt a familiar excitement that fed his body. He then turned around and felt around under his bed until he grabbed what he was looking for.

A rope.

He threw the line from the window, tying the other end on the bottom of his bed post. He did this once or twice a week, for if he was caught..... well he'd already be dead.

He watched the man climb up from the bottom of the rope to the top, The room was silent and there was an eerie fog over the forest that was close to the castle walls.

"Emil..."

The boy jumped in through the window and sighed, flopping down onto the royal velvet bed dressed in purple sheets.

"I'm so tired...." His bleach blond hair was filthy with dirt as were his clothes.

"You look that way." Lukas sat next to him on the bed, patting Emil's head and running a hand through his hair. "I remember how tiring the farm life was," Lukas reminisced, "and how much freedom we had."

"Lukas, I would die to be in a castle like this."

"You'd die if you were in this castle, it's torture here, Emil. I have been cooped up in these castle walls since Mathias so called 'rescued' me." Lukas sighed, holding his head in his hands in a depressed manner. "I just want to be free from all of this... free from the devil's grip."

Emil sat up and put a hand on Lukas's back.

"We're going to be alright, Lukas. One day I'm going to get you out of here. Get us out of this." Lukas chuckled.

"Yeah... we will... together." Lukas had fallen in love with Emil years ago. He met Emil on the night of the break in. Lukas had caught Emil wandering around the castle late at night. Emil hadn't stole anything that night, not to Lukas's knowledge. So Lukas began to talk to him more and more because who else was there to talk to? Emil risked his life night after night for this man, and if that wasn't love... well, then Lukas had no idea what love even was.

He actually knew hardly anythimg about Emil. All Emil told him that he was one of many farmers in the nearby village. Lukas could honestly care less about Emil's life and family though. He really didn't care if that sounded selfish either. It was just the overall truth. He just needed to have someone to talk to. He needed something to look forward to; something to keep him from going insane.

It wasn't like Emil tried to say much about his life either; he was just there to talk to Lukas and Lukas only. He was careful not to leave evidence of his visits. Lukas enjoyed the other's company and used him in a way to discover what occurred outside of the walls.

They probably talked for hours, they never kept track of time but as the sun began to show itself, Emil knew that it was time to leave his love before he would be spotted or discovered missing. But today was different.

"Hey, I have to leave a little early today

"What? But why?"

"Farm work. I have a job you know."

"I suppose."

"I will be back in two days." Emil smiled, lowering himself out the window. "I'll be waiting." Lukas laughed, kissing Emil through the window. "Till next time." Emil began to disappear back to the ground, getting smaller and smaller to Lukas's vision. Once he hit the ground and disappeared into the trees, Lukas turned and layed on his bed and began to doze off until,

"Who's that?"

Lukas shot up, wide eyed from his bed.

"I thought I told you to knock, Berwald."

"The door was unlocked."

'Unlocked? But...' Lukas thought 'I swear I locked it..' Berwald chuckled and had a goofy smile on his face, unfitting for his normal character.

"Well what do you need?"

"I heard noises. Thought you might be in danger."

"Well I'm not." Lukas growled, clenching his bed sheets.

"So who's that boy? A friend I suppose?"

"It's none of your business."

"I'm sure King Mathias wouldn't be too happy about this trespasser would he?"

Lukas's heart dropped and his core felt like it shriveled up.

"I don't think he'd believe you even if he tried. What would he think if I told him you broke into my room?"

"I already told you it was unlocked I-"

"You've told me many things and I honestly don't give a shit, Berwald. Now if you don't get out of my room, I'm calling for a guard to come and kick your ass back to Sweden." Lukas spat out in anger.

"I see, you do not wish for my company." Berwald looked away to the wall.

"I don't. Goodnight." Lukas said in a strict tone that made Berwald smile. That pissed Lukas off even more.

"Goodnight, your highness." Berwald bowed and turned to leave the room but he stopped at the doorway, "I hope you have fun at the ball tomorrow." And he left the room.

"Shit," Lukas sighed once the door closed. "What am I going to do?"
