Cadence P.O.V.

Argh! How could I have been so stupid?! All week I've been anticipating this Ball with my friends. This BALL. What always happens at Balls? Dancing. Do I know how to dance? Nope. And now I'm gonna end up making a fool of myself at my one chance to get away from my family. I.. I could mesmerise everyone.. right? Oh who am I kidding? That'll end in a disaster I'm too excited to not go... I guess I'll just not dance then. But Hawthorne loves to dance...

I sigh as I sneak past the lounge room where my family is - I'm going shopping with Morrigan, Lam, Thaddea and Anah for dresses for tomorrow evening. I'm about to open the front door when a voice stops me.

"Where do you think you're going... C.. Ca... Catty? No... Cindy? Not that either.. Candy??"

I scowl, "It's Cadence... remember?" I mumble the last word, already knowing what she'd say if she heard.

"Whatever, worthless, ungrateful brat," my mother says, "Answer the question."

"What question?" I ask, innocently.

"You know what I said- I did say it? Didn't I?!" She snarls.

"I'm g-going out.. with my friends."

"Friends? FRIENDS? A freak like YOU has FRIENDS?! Did you lot hear that? Candence here has friends!" She cackles, "Now who said you could go meet these "friends" of yours?"

"I-I-I..... no one..."

"Exactly."

I bit my lip, unsure whether to tell the truth or not.

"Now get back to your room or el-"

"NO! I've been invited to a Ball and I'm going whether you like it or not!" I near screamed.

My mother looked shocked.

"Who said you could? When is this 'Ball'? I... STEVEN! GET IN HERE NOW!" She shrieked.

My father walked into the room and Mum practically spat out our previous conversation at him. I've always like Dad better - he actually loves me and stands up for me... he remembers me. The only problem is that he is constantly called away for work.

"I think we should let her go."

"WHAT?" Mum screeched.

"Think about it this way Klaire, she'll be out of your hair tonight and tomorrow night. She could stay at her friend's place for Sunday too," Dad said, winking at me.

"Ugh, fine!" With that, my Mum left the room.

"Have fun Sweetie! Don't stay out too late tonight and make sure your dress is appropriate!"

"Okay, thanks Dad," I say, rolling my eyes.

I give him a quick hug and leave the house.

After Shopping

Still Cadence's P.O.V.

After shopping with the girls, I went back to Mahogany Park to watch the sunset - something I hadn't done since last Sunday night with Hawthorne. We decided to give our dresses to Morrigan to take back to the Hotel for tomorrow evening. Thaddea had chosen a formal dark blue jumpsuit with flowy legs, Anah had bought a peachy pink, A-line, off the shoulder dress with a white flower on the left side of the waist, Lam found a dress with a baby blue skirt and silver top, Morrigan drifted straight for the darker section (to no ones surprise) and remerged with a dress that faded from a purple to a darker purple and then to black (it had colour, to everyone's surprise) and I got a forest green dress with a slit on the left leg of the skirt and a lacy neckline. The dress code wasn't typical "Ball" clothes - ballgowns, fancy headpieces, etc. - but more of a formal, not-so-poofy sort of thing, ya know?
