Hunter's POV
The last thing I felt before rushing out of those doors were a sudden rush in my adrenaline which caused my body to act faster than usual. It was unusual also because I didn't know from where I was getting my energy.
The rain sharp as knives and as cold as ice hit my face and a second later my whole body but I couldn't care less. My heart ringed faster than ever as I reluctantly tried my best to catch a breath every now and then while also moving my legs as fast as I could.
My eyes were attached to her back, as if they both knew how important it was to keep a track of her this time. Of course, I wont let her go, I wont make the same mistake again.
Shade's car pulled up right on time and I internally thanked God for the help. "Yo you okay?!" he screamed at my way and I pulled a thumbs up in a quick motion before fixing her bag which were on my shoulders. *sigh*
I watched as she ran and ran, without glancing back or stopping for once. She was using my technique, the one I taught her a long time ago.
"In order to be able to run faster, move your hands quickly, it will cause your legs to move faster."
"What? Seriously?"
"Yeah! Wanna try?"
"Yes!! HAHAH"
That was 9 years ago, the year we became friends. She was always cheerful, active and happy which has inspired me as well. Her smile would light up my days and fill my heart with awe, her way of moving her hands too much while trying to explain something was beyond cute, her shy giggles when she was embarrassed, her adorable whispers and risky plans, everything about her, was perfect. Just how I loved it. The warmth she used to envelope me in every time we met, inspirational stuff she used to say to calm me down at times when I was done with everything, sweet compliments she used to give me, things she used to say which nobody else ever noticed, her appreciation towards my hard work was beyond everything I ever wanted. They were like dreams I never imagined, but they came true, in the form of a pure and loving soul.
"Red! Slow down!" I shouted as my lungs started to feel tight from running so much and I wondered how she was keeping up with her pace. She is running faster than I expected.
I ran faster, my legs forcefully clashing against the rough concrete road. My shoes felt heavy and so did my clothes, but I continued to run. Faster and closer to her. She was now about 10 meters away from me. I squeezed my eyes shut as they started to burn slightly and tried to catch up with her.
Seconds before my hands could reach her arm, she took a sudden turn to the right and I had no choice but follow her in astonishment and frustration.
"Red! Just- please, hear me out! Stop forcing yourself!" I forced out a few words with sharp intakes of breath in between every two words but she didn't even attempt to stop.
My breath was getting heavy and heavy and my legs felt like they would give away. My hands were shaking, either from the cold or from the terror that I might lose her. I shook my head, but it started to spin. I tried to adjust my vision and shook my head again but that only worsened the situation.
I screamed as a sudden pain attacked the left side of my brain, sending waves of shock throughout my whole body and caused me to fall on my knees. I wrapped my palms around my head in the attempt to stop the headache, but it didn't seem to work. I let out another angry growl as disappointment and pain drowned me along with the rain.
Tears streamed down my face and mixed with the rain as I opened my eyes, in hope to see her. I knew she wasn't there, she probably took the chance and escaped, leaving me behind. I raised my head. Through the blurry vision, I stared at her and let out a sigh of relief. It felt as though the headache that struck me seconds ago didn't even happen. My headache was gone as I stared at her. Her eyes were big, with worry etched in both of her arched eyebrow. She was breathing fast, her face was sad, it showed so much pain, that it hurt me too. From the distance, I could clearly visualize tears chasing down her cheeks.
And then she did the unexpected... She slowly walked close towards me, and with every step, her lips quivered, and more tears came down. She was shaking and looked like she would pass out. She fell on her knees and sat facing me. She sat and scanned my face silently, taking her time to study every feature and I did the same. She looked so different from how I remembered. There were no colours on her face, it was whiter than I remember, and surely smaller.
I didn't waste another moment and slowly leaned in, wrapped my arms around her small frame and pulled her close. She didn't resist, like I expected her to. Instead, she clutched on my shirt and breathed in a large amount of air.
I closed my eyes, feeling complete once again. I missed her so much, she fit perfectly in my arms and it was beyond satisfying. I hugged her tightly and stretched my legs outward to make myself comfortable. She started to sob, at first she was silently trying to stop it, but as I slowly and gently stroked her hair, she burst into tears. I sat there, on the road with rain showering upon the both of us. Feeling her in my arms again, felt so damn good that I didn't know how to express it.
We both sat and emptied our hearts by crying in utter silence and peace. I was crying tears of happiness, I couldn't believe I found her again. It was surreal, it felt like a dream. I never wanted to let go of her, I could hold her like this for hours.
For what felt like eternity, I breathed in and out her smell with a content smile plastered on my face. She was asleep, her soft and fragile body was pressed against mine, allowing me to feel her heartbeat. I don't know what time it was, but it was really dark. It could be past 3 am, I really don't know how long I have been sitting here.
I kissed her head softly before slowly trying to pull her up. It took a while, to stretch my legs and arms but I managed to pull her up with me without waking her. God she looks adorable when she sleeps, just like a baby but with really dark eye bags and pale lips. *shakes my head*
I carried her in my arms in half bridal style and half baby style because she was still clutching on my shirt. I started to walk backwards, towards the store from where I can take a cab.
I smiled again as I looked down on my arms and felt her head resting on my chest. Even though the night was really dark, with the only source of light coming from the moon and a few streetlights, I didn't feel lonely, neither scared. I felt safe, complete and strong. It feels like magic.
