"Yes mom I have plenty food in my fridge. I just went shopping" I said on the phone walking down the sidewalk in New York City. "How's school going" mom asked. "School is great mom" I said walking into a coffee shop. "How about broadway" mom asked. "Mom I don't want to talk about it" I sighed. "That bad huh"mom said. "I just said I didn't want to talk about it" I said. "The usual" the cashier asked. "Super sized please" I answered. He nodded and got to work after I handed him the money. "Ok ok no need to snap" mom said. "I'm sorry mama it's just frusterating" I said. "I understand baby girl" mom said.
I grabbed my coffee and left the shop. "Look mom I have to go I need to get to class. Tell Nala I love her and to be ready for our Skype date" I said. "Ok I will. Do you need any money"mom asked. "No"I answered. "Alright bye love you"mom said. "Love you too" I answered then hung up. I continued my journey to school when a poster caught my eye. "What's this" I asked myself. I stopped to take a look.
"Can you be our Cinderella? Come down to New York City Center and audition to be CInderella in the new musical 'Rodger and Hammerstein's Cinderella'. Auditions are from 7am-10pm. Hope to see you there. Break a leg!". "Maybe this can be my chance! I mean when I was younger a new version of that movie came out with a black fairy godmother and a black CInderella" I thought excitedly. I looked down at the time and cursed. "I'm gonna be late" I said. I covered my coffee and ran to class.
I was done with my school day by 4pm. I went home and was greeted by my dog Charlie. He's a husky. "Hey Charlie" I said giving him some food and water. I changed into my uniform for work and packed a bag for my dance clothes. I quickly made a sandwich and grabbed my bag. "Bye Charlie Adrianna will be here soon" I said then I left locking the door. I went to the bookstore where I worked during the week.
"Hey Rodney" I said to the manager's son. "Wassup Nina" Rodney responded. "Ok so I have huge news" I said after putting my stuff away. "I'm all ears" Rodney replied. "Ok so there's this new musical coming out and I'm going to audition. I actually might have a chance to play Cinderella. I could actually get a good part" I said excited. "Well that sounds great but" Rodney started. "But what" I asked. "I just don't want you to get your hopes up. I don't want to see you hurt" Rodney answered.
"See who hurt" Mr. Rodger asked. "Nobody dad" Rodney answered. "Then get to work! I don't pay you to stand around" Mr. Rodger said. "You don't pay me at all" Rodney said. Mr. Rodger hit him upside the head. "Ow! Dad I thought we talked about you doing that" Rodney whined. I laughed and started putting books away. "Nina sweetheart can you close up for me tonight?" Mr. Rodger asked "it's parent teacher night at Rodney's school. Let's just see he's reeking havoc again". "No problem Mr. Rodger" I answered with a smile. "This is why I like you" Mr. Rodger said. He ruffled my ponytail then left. I rolled my eyes and went back to putting books in their right spots.
I closed the bookshop at 9pm and quickly hailed a taxi. "New York City Center please" I told the taxi driver. We were there in 15 minutes. I quickly paid him then ran inside. I went to the nearest bathroom and changed my clothes. I redid my ponytail then went to sign up. "Perfect timing I was about to close up. Name please" the lady said. "Nina King" I said. I gave her all my information then got my picture taken.
She handed me a number and I went to the waiting area. There were only 3 people ahead of me. I sent a text to my mom telling her to tell Nala I was going to be a little late for our date then I played some music to calm my nerves. Before I knew it it was my turn. "Number 10618" a worker called. I removed my earbuds and stood up. "They're ready for you" she said with a smile. I said a quick prayer then followed her. "Do you have any music" she asked. I handed her my phone after going to my playlist.
