What It Takes To Be A Hero

"Even if I'll never have superpowers...Even if everyone thinks that I'm useless...despite everything I still dream... and I have to know... "

"Is it possible to become a hero even if I don't have a quirk? I'm a normal kid without any powers... Could I ever hope to become someone like you?" Izuku whimpers out

All Might turn towards the boy.

"Without a quirk? Urgh!!!" He questions, when suddenly a flash of pain erupts through him. All Might begins to grunt and groan in pain while smoke sizzles around him. " Oh no. not now, dammit! not here!"

All the while Izuku doesn't take notice, looking down he speaks. "Most people think I don't have a chance, except for my mother. She's the only one who believes in me. People think not having some kind of powers makes me a weakling. My classmate likes to make fun of me, but you know what, that makes me want to prove them wrong." 

As Izuku talks he fails to see the cloud of smoke surrounding the hero before him. "Ever since I was a kid, I thought saving people is the coolest thing you can do. I want people to see my fearless smile and feel safe and be the kind of hero everyone looks up to. Just like you."

Izuku looks up in time to see the cloud of smoke dissipate. Revealing a scrawny, almost skeletal man in place where the beefy hero stood. Izuku surprised and confused, screams.

"Huh....I...wait...who...What happened? You deflated" Izuku looks over the scrawny man in front of him, he proceeded to look both ways trying to look for All Might; not believing the man that stood where the hero once did, was the same person. "Huh... Where did All Might go? You... you're not him. You're a fake, an imposter." He pointed at the blonde man.

The man held a non impressed face at the blubbering boy "I assure you, I am All M..."He began but the blood seeping out of his mouth stopped him, making Izuku scream out again.

(At home, (y/n) shuddered. Her mom senses tingling, but she merely shrugged and went back to grading papers.)

"IMPOSSIBLE!!!" 

"You know how guys at the pool are always sucking in and flexing and try to hold their buff? I'm like that." All Might explained wiping away the blood from his mouth. "THIS CAN'T BE REAL!!! No... I'm dreaming...All might is of a giant man who saves everyone, he defeats all obstacles and wins the day with a fearless smile." Izuku said weakly, in denial about the situation.

"There's plenty of fear behind that smile." All Might sits down on the ground "I'm counting on you to keep your mouth shut. Don't go talking about this online or telling your friends." he said weakly. Suddenly he lifts his shirt up to reveal a nasty mix between a scar and wound.

Izuku gasps in shock "Pretty gross, right? I got this from a big fight five years back. My respiratory system was basically destroyed. I lost my whole stomach. All the surgeries have pretty much worn me out and it can't be fixed. Right now, I can only do hero work for about 3 hours a day. The rest of the time, this is what I look like." 

"No way... Five years ago? So does that mean it was the fight with Toxic chainsaw?" Izuku asked, impressing the man with his knowledge. 

"Wow, you know you're stuff, but no. the punk may have landed some hit but he couldn't bring me down. Most of the world has never heard of this fight. I did everything I could to keep it under wraps. I'm supposed to be the guy who always smiles, right? I'm the symbol of peace, people everywhere have to think that I'm never afraid. But honestly, I smile to hide the fear inside. It's just a brave face I put when the pressure is high. This job isn't easy." All Might looked Izuku in his eyes as he continued to speak.

"Pro heroes are always having to risk their lives. Some villains just can't be bitten without powers. So no, I honestly don't think you can be a hero without a quirk." The man's words broke Izuku down. "I see." Izuku said sadly.
