Sometimes when a person is down nothing seems right. Nothing makes sense. Nothing brings back hope. Then, suddenly, there comes a light so bright that it reignites hope with one swift breath of encouragement. It shakes one back into action. And it comes in a form of words spoken by a friend with truest of intentions...
Sanem walked in to the agency with Leyla, with barely a heartbeat left in her chest. She knew she would have to face the other employees, that she would have to face Hüma, but worst of all she would have to face the agency in which Can was nowhere to be found. Why? Because he would have chosen to leave Istanbul and fly to the Balkans with Polen. WITH Polen. That, above all, hurt her in a way that Can would not understand. Even if he himself would have known that he would never consider reconciling with Polen, it would have been enough for Sanem to see that he chose Polen over her. It was as simple as that.
When she got to the agency, she did not even know if she was going to be able to last the whole day, an hour, even a minute, if she would have to work knowing that Can would no longer be there. Luckily, someone who cared about her was there to make sure she was alright. Ceycey. Ceycey knew something wasn't right the minute he saw her. The Sanem he knew what as vibrant as the ribbons on the Wishing Tree and as loud as, well, as Deren whenever she needed coffee. So, when he saw that Sanem was quiet, he recognized her demure and meek behavior as a sign of trouble, and spared no time asking what was wrong.
Sanem looked around and replied that nothing was wrong, except for the fact that Can wasn't there, that he wouldn't be there, because they wouldn't be there together from now on. Ceycey looked at Sanem and binked. She must have gone mad. She must have. He was sure of it. There was no way on this green earth that Can would part ways from her. There just wasn't. Sanem replied that there was. They parted ways. He was leaving. And he was leaving with Polen.
Ceycey did not even blink now. Sanem spoke in such a secretive and incoherent code that if she wasn't going to explain everything in more detail to him, he was going to go mad himself. So she did. And one sentence from her blew away any confusion in his mind as to what happened. Can found out that she surrendered her perfume to Fabri, and he became enfuriated. He broke things off with Sanem, and what cut Sanem's heart the most was the fact that he told her that from now on she would be just as ordinary to him as everyone else.
Ceycey shook his head. She misunderstood Can. She must have. There was no other explanation. But Sanem disagreed. Can did not leave a shred of doubt in her mind. They were done. Their love was gone. And now to make it worse Polen victoriously waltzed back to Can's life and made it clear to Sanem that he would let her stay there. Unable to speak any further, she asked Ceycey if he knew of a place where she could find a moment of peace to cry her sorrows out. He pointed her to the archive room, fully aware that the archive room was a place of refuge for her in the past.
When Sanem returned, Can was still missing. But Deren was not. She mobilized everyone and shouted for so long that it even impressed Hüma. As employees were waiting for Can to come in, Hüma herself was not. She was silently prepared for Can to leave. For reasons she kept to herself, she would have preferred for Can to leave everything behind, even her, than to stay and fight for his love for Sanem and his place as the head of the agency. She was glad that Can hadn't come in. She was sure that Polen had succeeded in convincing Can to accept her job offer. She was sure that the measly mediocre Sanem had nothing on Polen. After all, Polen had poise, Polen had class, Polen had everythin Can should have desired in a woman.
Except... Polen did not have Can's heart. Hüma couldn't believe her eyes when Can walked into the agency. He was upbeat. He was energized. And above all, he wasn't afraid to stand beside Sanem and look her in the eyes. Even Sanem herself had a hard time making any sense of the way Can carried himself around her. They had broken up. They were no longer together. He shouldn't stand beside her, right? He shouldn't look into her eyes, right? Because the moment he did... she looked into his.
