Another week had passed, but the incident in the cafeteria still dominated conversations across campus. No one seemed to have moved on, especially since it involved their beloved Zion. And then there was me, rumored to be his "boyfriend."
As for me and Sullie, well, we still hung out together, sometimes with Sasha and Kara, but now and then with Roger too. I wasn't sure why he decided to join us, but I sensed something between him and Sullie. Sometimes I caught her staring at him when Roger wasn't looking, and vice versa. I couldn't help but find them cute.
"Before I dismiss you all, I'd like to inform you that there will be a celebration this Friday for our Art Appreciation subject. Everyone should perform during the event, as it will count toward your exam grades," our professor announced, eliciting complaints from the room. "Those who fail to perform will receive a failing grade." Some classmates gasped, while others began to grumble. "Any questions?" the professor asked.
"Sir?" one of our classmates called out. The professor nodded, signaling for him to continue. "How are we supposed to perform, sir?" he inquired.
"You all know that art takes various forms. It could be a dance, a song, a painting, or simply a talent showcase. Showing your skills is like revealing your inner art. So, it's up to you what you want to perform, on stage," the professor explained, emphasizing the last two words, which surprised everyone.
Performing on stage was undoubtedly nerve-wracking. Enduring judgmental looks and critical stares while being evaluated based on your performance and their interests. In our society, even if you just walked on stage looking handsome, everyone would adore you.
"Don't worry because you won't be the only ones performing. All the classes with the same subject will also perform," the professor added, but it didn't seem to calm everyone down.
After our professor left, the students remained, fretting about the upcoming performance. Some planned to dance, sing, or showcase their own creations. Many ideas filled the room regarding the performance.
"What are you going to do, Tey?" Roger asked as he sat on my desk.
"I'll either dance or play the drums, I think," I replied.
"Wait, you play the drums?!" Roger exclaimed, surprised. His eyes lit up as if something had piqued his interest.
"Yeah, my father taught me when I was a kid," I explained.
"That's great! I play bass. If we had a guitarist and a vocalist, we could form a band," Roger suggested, which was actually a good idea.
"Lucky for you, I'm quite good with guitars," Sullie chimed in, making Roger's face light up even more.
"Our only problem now is finding a vocalist," Roger mumbled, tapping his fingers on the desk, lost in thought. But that wasn't our only problem. I didn't have my drum set with me. My dad couldn't bring them since he couldn't drive anymore, and it would be too much for my mom to bring them here.
"I'll sing," a deep voice suddenly said. The three of us looked over to see Zion leaning on his desk with his hands in his pockets.
"Are you sure, dude?" Roger asked, unable to believe that Zion volunteered as our vocalist. Zion glanced out the window, lost in thought.
"Let's take that as a yes," Sullie said.
"Are you sure, Sullie? Do you want him to sing?" I asked, surprised.
"He volunteered. We can't reject a willing guy like him. Besides, he's Zion," Sullie explained, though it didn't make much sense.
Finally, the last class of the day ended, and we all couldn't wait to go home and rest. But then I remembered that we still needed to discuss our performance. Roger suggested that we come up with a song today so that we could practice tomorrow.
