He knew he had screwed up. Had he known how bad, he probably would have kept his mouth shut or chosen something else as a diversion to prevent Felix from blurting out the truth.
"I am not a human. I am a werewolf." She said quietly.
Jordan was surprised. If she was a werewolf, he would have sensed her wolf. He subtly let his wolf take over his senses. He could identify Felix's wolf. But when he strained further he felt small stirrings of another wolf. It was so subtle that her human scent easily covered it up. No wonder he had thought she was human.
"Oh. Yet to turn?" He asked but was instantly filled with regret when he saw her flinch. Clearly this was a sore topic and he, like a fool, had let his curiosity run free.
Judging by how grim Felix looked, he was filled with concern. There were quite a few causes for a dormant wolf. He hoped it wasn't because she was bitten without her consent. If her discomfort was anything to go by, whatever event caused her to become a werewolf must have been recent.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to-" He started.
"I was born as one. Both my parents are werewolves too. My wolf has gone dormant." She said, but she wouldn't meet his eyes.
He felt even worse now. To lose one's wolf is like losing a part of you. He wished someone would shoot him right now because he didn't know what was the right thing to say in such a situation.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." He said. He did owe her a hundred apologies for being an ass.
An uncomfortable silence had descended upon the group. While he was churning ways to apologize in his head and simultaneously kicking Felix in his head for not informing him earlier, Stella broke the silence.
"It's fine, not that big of a deal anyways. So does anyone want more soup?" She asked.

The dinner was a somber affair. Everyone seemed more at ease when it was finally over. Stella rushed out of the room mumbling something about sleeping arrangements.
Jordan seized this moment and cornered Felix.
"Felix, why didn't you warn me before? I just made a complete fool of myself."
"Sir, I had no idea you would steer the conversation in that direction. I forgot what it was like for strangers who couldn't sense her wolf. I am sorry Sir. But why can't we tell her the truth?" Felix asked.
"Why are you so insistent?" I asked, surprised by his insistence.
"I- er- just wanted to know the reason." He mumbled.
"I need some normalcy before the chaos begins. So no more bringing it up. As soon as the storm lets up, we'll leave. Alright?"
"Yes sir." He said.
"You can call me Jordan, you know." I said.
"The only reason I will not call you sir is because I had it replaced with your official title." Felix said.
"What if I order you to?"
"Well you can after you have claimed your title. Have you?" He asked.
"No. Sir it is then." I shook my head. Felix was loyal but also very stubborn. Well at least he had a spine and made for better company than those suck ups.
"Your room is ready, your highness." Stella's words made Jordan stiffen in surprise before he saw the sly smile on her face.
Hm would she still be smiling if she knew who he was? Jordan thought.
