She knew it was going to a stormy night. But if she had known it would be this bad then she probably would have stayed in as opposed to being stuck in the stable with her horses. She loved them to death but nothing could beat the warmth and comfort of her bed. A part of the stable had been modified to resemble a small house and she had never been more thankful for it than she was today. With the rain not showing any sign of stopping she decided to settle in for a long night.
A loud rapping on the door woke her from the sleep she had unknowingly fallen in. Covering herself with a shawl she headed towards the door and peered through the magic eye. When she saw who it was, she hurriedly opened the door. Felix had always been like a father figure to her. With greying hair and a slightly wrinkled face, his face didn't betray his age. Right now he was drenched from head to toe and staggering under the weight of the bag he was carrying.
"Felix! What happened? I thought you knew about the storm and weren't going to report to work today." She asked.
"Got called in for important work. This bloody storm just wouldn't let up. The car I was driving broke down. Luckily we were close to your place so I thought we could wait in here until the damn storm passes, if it's ok with you that is?" Felix said.
"Yes of course. You don't have to ask. Here, let me help you with the bag." She started towards the bags but Felix shook his head.
"I got this. Can you fetch me some towels so I don't end up flooding your house?" He asked.
"Right. I'll get you the towel and some dry clothes. Don't worry about the mess." She hurried towards the cupboard to grab the essentials and laid them out on the table. She heard some shuffling near the door and decided to help Felix with his stuff.
Suddenly a loud thunder clapped across the sky and everything went dark. A power outage wasn't uncommon during a storm but the timing couldn't have been any worse.
She pulled out her phone and switched on the flashlight. Using the beam of light she made her way towards the door.
"Felix are you - what the hell! Who are you?" She suddenly shrieked.
The man standing in front of her looked nothing like Felix. He was much taller and currently trying to shield his eyes from the glare of the flashlight.
"Who are you? Where is Felix? Can you please lower the flashlight. I mean no harm." He raised his hands to show he was unarmed.
With the lack of proper lighting it was hard to decipher who this man was. Based on what she could see and hear, he didn't seem familiar.
She lowered her flashlight and saw he too, like Felix, was drenched and carrying two bags.
"I know most of the people around Felix but I haven't seen you anywhere. Who are you and how do you know Felix?" She asked.
"I would have preferred if we did the introductions in a more comfortable setting but nevertheless, good evening fair maiden." He bowed in an exaggerated manner that prompted her to roll her eyes.
"My name is Jordan and I know Felix because he works for my family. I came back here, to Wilcrest, after quite a few years hence why you haven't seen me around. I believe I have answered all your questions. Now if I may, who are you?"
"I - " She started but was interrupted.
"Stella? Is everything ok?" Felix's voice came from one of the rooms. Soon he emerged out with the emergency torch and blinded the pair standing near the door with his torch light.
"Blind me, why don't you?" She heard Jordan mutter.
"Oh I forgot to mention about-" Felix started but she cut him off, "Jordan? Well we were just going through the introductions. You should have mentioned you were bringing a guest. I thought he was an intruder."
