Lauren's POV

When the rooster called, I went out of the house to go to the library. On my way there, I hear the church bells tolling. "Bonjour!" I heard people greet each other from their houses. Then, I see the baker holding a tray of baked bread and rolls.

"Good morning, Lauren!" A tall and young man with short brown hair greeted. "Good morning, Monsieur Troy." I greeted him. "Have you lost something again?" I asked. "I believe I have. The problem is, I can't remember what!" Troy replied. "Oh well, I'm sure it will come to me." He said. "Where are you off to?" He asked. "To return this book to Taylor Swift," I answered. "It's about two lovers in fair Verona," I said. "Sound's boring," Troy said.

After the conversation, we bid our goodbyes and went our separate ways. As I head towards the library, I heard the townspeople talk badly about me.

I finally arrived at the library when suddenly, "Ah, if it isn't the only bookworm in town." Taylor said. "So, where did you run off to this week?" She asked. "Two cities in Northern Italy," I replied.
"I didn't want to come back!" I stated to her.

"Have you got any new places to go?" I asked. "I'm afraid not, but you may reread any of the old ones that you'd like." She answered. "Thank you," I said. "Your library makes our small corners of the world feel big," I added. "Bon voyage," Taylor said. "Bye," I replied.

Narrator's POV

Lauren walked through the crowd as she continues to read the book that she borrowed. She is currently reading the part where the girl will meet Prince Charming. But the girl won't know that it was him until Chapter 3.

From the hills, there were two men. One with a light brown coat and brown hair, the other with a red coat and dark braided hair. "Look at her, Luis," Ty said as he looks at her with a telescope. "My future wife," He stated. "Lauren is the most beautiful girl in the village." He said. "That makes her the best." He said with determination. "But she's so well-read," Luis stated. "And you're so—" He stopped, struggling to find the right words to say.

"—Athletically inclined," Luis said. "I know," Ty said. "Lauren can be as argumentative as she is beautiful." He said. "Exactly—Who needs her when you've got us!" Luis said, trying to convince Ty that he is fine on his own.

"Yes—but ever since the war, I've felt like I've been missing something." Ty said. "And she's the only girl that gives me that sense of—" He got cut off by Luis. "Je ne sais quoi?" Keaton asked. "I don't know what that means," Ty replied.

Meanwhile, at the village, Lauren continues to read her book as people continue to talk badly about her. "Good morning, Lauren!" Ty said. "Wonderful book you have there." He complimented. "Have you read it?" Lauren asked. "Well, not that one. But, you know, books." Ty chuckled. "For your dinner table." He gave her a bouquet of tulips. "Shall I join you this evening?" He asked her. "Sorry, not this evening," Lauren replied to him. "Busy?" Ty asked. "No..." Lauren replied as she walked away slowly.

"So, moving on?" Luis asked as he witnessed what just happened. "No, Luis," Ty replied. "It's the ones who play hard to get that are always the sweetest prey." He said confidently. "That's what makes Lauren so appealing." He said. "She hasn't made a fool of herself just to gain my favor." He stated. "What would you call that?" He asked. "Dignity?" Luis said unsure of his answer. "It's outrageously attractive, isn't it?" Ty said.

Lauren's POV

When I went back home, I see Papa working on a music box. "Papa, do you think I'm odd?" I asked him. "My daughter? Odd?" Papa replied confusingly at me. "Where did you get an idea like that?" He asked me. "I don't know. People talk." I replied.

"This is a small village, you know. Small-minded as well." Papa stated. "Even back in Paris, I knew a girl like you, who was so—ahead of her time." He said. "So different." He said. "People mocked her." He added. "Until they all found themselves imitating her." He said.

"Please, just tell me one more thing about her," I asked as he was preparing his things to go to the market. "Your mother was—fearless," Papa replied.

"Fearless."
