Hailey welcomed me with a reassuring hug as soon as I entered her home. The familiar smell of vanilla and paint welcomed me, greeted by the little furry pup that for some unknown reasons took a liking to me the first day he set his starry brown eyes on mine. Hailey took me to their lounge. Whenever Hailey and I had a fight, it was always settled at her lounge, not her room or anywhere else, the artsy place had always been my comfort zone. With colourful paints, seascapes paintings splattered all over their walls. The room was a total piece of art. The fact that it embraced nature willingly was what I loved about it the most, you could get lost in the beautiful masterpiece for an eternity.
On the other side of the room which hosted the only window in there, their family portrait sat comfortably on a stained glass replaced as the window. Hailey's mom was a big fan of art and artists, she was an art collector.
Stuffed throw pillows with different shapes and sizes representing the characters in Marvel comics held my gaze.
I've always been a fan of Marvel cinematic universe, all their movies were literally stored in my head.
I headed over to the chair on the right side of the room where Captain America's throw pillow stared lustfully at me.
Okay. That was a total lie!
Obviously, Captain America was my favourite.
I sat on one of the comfy Italian chairs, Hailey took her place beside me whilst placing Thor's throw pillow on her thighs.
No guesses- her favourite too.
The little furry creature- Dobby, curled up beside me.
Another good guess, I'm a fan of Harry Potter too.
And yes, I gave him that name. The only reason Dobby wasn't living with me was because my shady apartment would never accommodate something as beautiful and ethereal as him. It was just too hoary and old for him. Like a beat up beetles car or what was left of it.
"Alessia, I know this may seem insane or irrational..." She started, giving me a look, asking if she could continue with whatever words she had at the tip of her tongue.
I smiled assuringly.
She took that as a cue and continued,
"I think...it's just a thought okay, I just feel like you should go back to Trevor. I have a hunch about whatever you have going on in your head, you obviously had a thought about making some plans to leave him but darlin-" I cut her off.
"Hailey, I explained everything to you over the phone. I admit, I had a teeny thought about leaving him or calling in sick on our supposed thirty billion dollar- hollywood worthy 'wedding'. But the point is, he cheated on me Hailey. Okay, that sounded like I'm some kind of jealous, overly in love with her fiance fiancee because trust me, I'm not,"
"Whatever floats your bubble," Hailey piped in.
That snide comment was totally unnecessary. Definitely out of it.
I ignored her and went on "He shoved his infidelity in my face, not once but twice. And you want me to take him back right? What happens when he starts coming home late at night after our wedding or stops coming home at all, again- not that I care. Hailey, how do you rather I keep up with that?"
"I understand babe. I do." She said.
"Oh, now you do," I snickered.
"Babe hear me out, you're not doing this for Trevor, yes?"
"Yes of course. A hundred percent." I deadpanned.
"Good. Then you shouldn't let him bother you, do not give him the opportunity to rile you up. Remember your goal Alessia, remember your goal- your mother," She paused, waiting for her words to sink into the deepest part of my wanton brain.
I took a pause, an excruciatingly long pause that seemed to go on forever.
Oh my God! Those were the only words I could come up with.
How could I've been so selfish. The main reason I had accepted Trevor's bizarre- out of the moon offer was because of my mom or was it truly?
Nothing seemed true anymore, I didn't know what was right or wrong. I've been so caught up in protecting my image that I had totally forgot the actual reason I started it all.
No one would want such a heartless, selfish daughter.
"Yea right. Very right." I agreed without an ounce of fight left in me, my shoulders slumped in despair. There was no point in fighting the inevitable anyway, even if I wanted out, my mother came first in every big decisions in my life, and just like any other big decision, She did, once again.
Hailey rubbed my slightly rigid hands that seemed to have gone into shock at the realisation that one of them would never bid farewell to the expensive ring on of my finger.
"You know I mean well, right? And I want you to be happy, you may not see it now but that boy would make you happy someday and your troubles would cease to exist. I would have loved to help with mom but you wouldn't let me, I may not say it often but I'm really proud of you, I'm proud of your self-restraint. If I were in your shoes, I'd have definitely lost my mind to misery. It takes only the strongest mind to do what you've done and still doing. You're not selfish even though this world does not give any room for selfless acts, but not to you, you continued to put that bitch back in her place. My only braveheart." Hailey finished. She patted my back, whispering words of encouragement into my ears.
Those words that came out of her mouth shocked me to my core. Hailey was always the goofy one amongst us two. With her 'I could care less' attitude, and something as real and true managed to come out of her mouth without getting choked was one big surprise.
She definitely had the look of shock and astonishment I gave her coming. It wasn't everyday your best-friend blew your mind with words you never thought her silly brain could fathom. That came out rude but that was just it, the truth.
And she was right.
Life was a total bitch. You just need to try your best to not get too entranced with her and suck on her titties, because trust me, it would shit you real bad. You'd end up purging all the glory you had mounted on.
And she didn't need to say it. I knew what I needed to do. Just two goddamn words.
Get married.
