School hadn't been terrible, but it hadn't been great either. Turns out the those 3 girls I met hung around with the so-called " douche canoes " that they had steered me away from. I tried talking to them a few times, but it seemed like if you weren't wearing name brand socks even, you couldn't get a word in with them. Apparently my boot-leg brand wasn't doin the trick.
When I got home from school, my mom fired away her usual arsenal of questions at me. I told her that everything was great, and I made a ton of new friends. I'm pretty sure she believed me too. When you say any lie with enough confidence people will believe you.
The next day at school was a little bit better. I met someone named kyle, who was pretty cool.
"Hallelujah." he had said when we first met
"What?"
"I finally found out that it is, indeed, possible for someone to come to school wearing clothes that don't make them look like a total dick. "
And so I guess that was that, I made my first friend. And yeah I guess I was pretty excited.
Now I guess I forgot to mention something to you. Back in Boston, not everyone was quite so friendly as Kyle had been to me. I didn't really have many close friends, and the ones I did hang out with were the kids who got stuffed into lockers. So when Kyle started talking to me, and not from the inside of a locker, i was kind of stoked.
"So, you hear about arrie torres yet?" Kyle asked me that day at lunch.
" Heard of her. What's this whole 'buisness' deal anyways? "
"Alright so this chic, Arrie, she does this whole weird thing with words. Like, she has this list of all these super cool words that she's like obsessed with. And nobody really knows anything about her, but if you go and tell her a secret, she'll give you one of her words."
"That's pretty cool, I guess."
" Hah yeah but nobody tells her any actual secrets, they just get a kick out of messing with her. "
I wasn't gonna lie, it sounded kind of interesting. But I would never tell Kyle that.
