I woke up on a merciless Monday morning early enough to make my own pot of coffee and sit and watch the news. I had to go to 3 classes and then afterword I was going over to Miss. Lafayette's flower stand across from the painters to start my job.
I had spoken to Miss Lafayette a while back about if she would consider hiring me and she was delighted at the thought of a vacation. She was the first one to talk to me when I came here after high school and she had always been at her flower stand every day, minus a few where her oldest son was getting married and when she had the flu.
I was extremely excited to be able to work at a flower stand, telling people what flowers I thought would be best for what occasion they planned on bringing them to. I also needed the money; the Art Institute is not cheap and neither is owning a dog.
I put on my sunflower skirt and a white bralet and pulled my curls half up and half down. I wanted comfortable footwear so I put on my white sandals that I adored and a light pink lipstick. I put minimal makeup due to the heat and I poured my cup of coffee into my large white mug. I took out my travel mug as well because I knew for sure that I would be needing more coffee for classes and work.
I made sure to feed Olly and spend a little time with him before heading out into the busy streets for another day.
It was a sunny day like usual, the heat not fully baking the sidewalks that would be walked on by thousands of tourists and working men and women alike. I pulled out my shades form my satchel which I seemed to take everywhere with my little art journal and a few spare pens.
I walked to class with my cute travel mug and sipped the coffee like there was no tomorrow, almost spilling it while going up the stairs to my first class.
Felicity wasn't there yet so I sat in the same seats as we usually did, waiting for her arrival.
"hey cutie" I heard the familiar voice drawing nearer and I smiled and greeted her with a kiss on the cheek.
I remember when I first got here and people always kissed each other's cheeks. I always thought it was cute but awkward whenever I would attempt to fit in and do the same.
"How are you this morning?" We took out our supplies.
"Tired like always BUT I did get that coffee that you recommended ages ago....it was quite the stuff" she pointed matter-of-factly.
"I told you. Didn't it taste like Heaven?"
"Yeah. I could really fe__" Mr. Dmitri interrupted our riveting confabulation on coffee.
Four and a half hours later Felicity and I were walking out of the ancient building with our heads spinning in exhaustion.
"How many writing assignments do you have?"
"Two; both have to have at least 4 pages, what about you."
"Three and two of them have to have at least 10,000 words" I sighed at the thought of how much I had to do by Friday.
"wowza" she rubbed her eyes.
"Oh, don't you start your job today?"
"yeah" I smiled cause I had completely forgotten.
"bring your laptop to the stand and work on some homework while you're there. I'm sure Miss. Lafayette won't mind and it can't be that busy."
"That's a good idea" I nodded my head.
We went our separate ways and I went straight to the floral stand to meet with Miss. Lafayette so she could tell me what to do.
"Bonjour" I kissed her cheek and she had the cutest smile.
