When Taylor Miller's older sister Kayleigh dies in a car crash, her life becomes more than hectic. The family struggles with growing from the loss, but it's Taylor who finds it harder to move on. With being so close to her sister, Taylor feels as though she's lost some part of herself. Worried about her daughter, Taylor's mother confides in her sister Lana and asks her to take Taylor in for the summer. Lana lives in Kaui, Hawaii with her husband Mike.
Taylor's parents hope that a summer away from home, will make it easier to grieve.
Taylor isn't particularly thrilled, but goes along with the trip. She doesn't expect a miracle, but finds herself surprised by the magic that Kaui offers. Unexpectedly, she finds new friends, a chance at romance, and a new hobby, surfing. What starts out as a dare turns into a passion that opens Taylor's mind to new possibilities and maybe a brighter future.
