?: hey y/n, i've missed you.

your heart sank as you read the text. upon further inspection, you didn't recognize the number. it made you a little uneasy, but you figured it was nothing. you quickly swiped away to garcia's cell number, calling her,

y/n: hey.

p: what's up hon?

y/n: do you think you can look up a number for me?

p: oh uh, sure, give me a minute-

you heard rustling as if she was getting out of bed.

p: alright, hit me.

y/n: uhh the number is-

you lowered the phone from your ear and swiped back onto the text, then to the contact information,

y/n: 720-842-1455..

you heard typing and you sighed softly, leaning against the bathroom counter,

y/n: anything?

p: uhh, yea. looks like a new number. the guy probably is using a cheap phone, probably just got it, too. there's no records on it.

your stomach did a flip,

y/n: okay. thanks penelope.

p: why're you asking?

y/n: just curious.

p: alright. also, are you, uh, dating or like hooking up with anyone?

penelope asked. she'd know if you were lying because of the texts,

you started to speak, but were stopped,

p: oh, also, is anything going on between you and spencer? y'know, the trip and all..

her voice trailed off. you winced and rubbed the back of your neck,

y/n: no. not dating or hooking up with anything. and nothing with spencer.

p: hm. okay. i'll see you at work. bye!

penelope blew a kiss over the phone and hung up. her smile faded and she sighed, crossing her arms as she got up from her chair.

you let out a breath you didn't even know you were holding in. this new number was definitely going to keep you on your toes.

you got dressed as spencer was in the kitchen, wearing the clothes he'd worn the day before. he didn't have the energy to call an uber back to his house to grab a new set. you wore high waisted black jeans with a blue long sleeve button up. you fixed the collar on your neck and tucked the shirt in as you always did. you walked out to check on spencer before you got ready,

"you good..?" you asked blankly. he looked over,

"yea, are you?" you nodded hesitantly, walking to the bathroom. he furrowed his eyebrows, sensing something was up. he scratched his head and walked over to your coffee pot to make coffee for himself and you.

when you reached your bathroom, you shakily grabbed your straightener and turned it on. it heated up fast and you began to straighten some parts of your hair that had waved up during your sleep. at one point, you zoned out, clamping the hot iron down around your finger,

"shit!" you said, dropping the straightener. it made a loud crash sound against your tile floor. within seconds spencer had already rushed in as you held your hand around your burnt finger,
