I ignored Naruto for the next few days, using the excuse that I was busy. Although, he probably knew I wasn't.
The next Saturday was one of the cooler days of the Summer. I stayed in bed all morning, because I didn't want to risk losing the comfort and warmth of my bed. My cellphone buzzed. I knew it had to be Naruto, so I thought it could wait. I continued to sleep. It buzzed... And buzzed.
"Damn it..." I rose up and picked up my phone, he had texted me: "Hey!"..."Sasuke!"..."Answer me!"..."I know your not busy! Answer!!" I sighed. I replied back: "I was sleeping... What do you want?" He replied a few seconds later with an address that led somewhere here in the city. "What's this?" I asked. He didn't respond.
I grunted, "Damn it!" I rubbed my eyes and got dressed in slightly warmer clothes. When I stepped outside, I instantly wanted to go back to bed, the wind was blowing cold air at my face.
I pulled my phone back out and clicked on the address, my "Map App" pulled up the location. I followed the direction, feeling nervous that I was being led somewhere dangerous. It seemed like a sketchy part of the city. Old, industrial buildings and small, junky apartment buildings lined the streets.
I felt vulnerable walking alone.
Sitting near the door of the building I was led to, were two, small rats. I cringed and walked up to the door, I pressed the door bell and waited. I heard footsteps and stepped back away from the door. It swung open and Naruto was standing there with a stupid grin on his face.
"Hey! I'm glad you showed up, come on up!" Naruto led me up the stairs to his apartment. "Come on in." He motioned as he opened the door. I stepped inside, it was a small, plain studio-like apartment.
"You live here?" I asked, not realizing it sounded rude until it was too late. "Yeah... I know it isn't much. Just the necessities," He explained. "Sorry, I... I didn't mean it like that." "No, I understand what you meant... Do you want something to drink?" "Sure... What do you have?" "Uhm, water... Starbucks coffee...," He laughed. "I'll have water then," I chuckled.
Naruto grabbed a glass, filled it with tap water and handed it to me. "Thanks," I mumbled. We sat down together on his couch, a "love seat", meaning we were practically "thigh-to-thigh."
I cleared my throat, "So, why did you invite me over?" "I thought we should hang out...," He replied. "Hang out?" "Yeah." "Here, at your house?" "Yeah." "Together?" "Uh, yeah." "...Just the two of us?" "Yes." "We barely know each other, and you invited me to your house? I could be dangerous! I could murder you!" I argued. "Okay, so... Will you?" He asked. "What?" "Will you murder me?" "N-No! That's not what-" "Okay, listen, I'm sorry! I just thought, maybe you and I could be friends!" Naruto yelled. We were staring at each other in the eyes, yelling nonsense, sitting on a love seat together. Our faces were either red from yelling or embarrassment from such a foolish arguement. I set my glass of water down on the table in front of us. Some splashed onto the table.
"You know what," I started, "I think I am just going to leave. This is stupid... This was a mistake. I'm sorry." I got up to leave and started towards the door. "No, Sasuke!" Naruto rushed over, "Wait, please!" I sighed, "Naruto-" I was cut off.
Naruto had jumped out of his seat, grabbed my shoulder, and spun me around. We were face to face. His lips touching mine. I felt paralyzed. I couldn't move, couldn't push him away, couldn't kiss him back. It felt like it lasted a lifetime before he pulled away. His face was bright red and he looked as shocked as I did.
"I...," He began, but he lost the words. I couldn't speak, I didn't no what to say. I just shook my head, quickly turned and left. I ran down the stairs and out of the building. I couldn't tell what this meant, but I didn't want to find out.
My head was spinning and I felt like I might faint. I sat on the stairs leading up to the door, so I wouldn't collapse onto the concrete floor. I laid my head in the palms of my hands. Naruto followed me outside, he spotted abruptly behind me at the stairs.
"Sasuke?!" He called. Naruto sat down beside me, holding me down at the shoulder so I couldn't easily get up. "I'm so sorry!" He apologized, "I can't believe I just did that! I'm so sorry!" He shook my shoulder, "Sasuke, please forgive me! I really didn't mean to do that!" I could tell he was crying, he sounded choked up. I knew he truly felt sorry, or if he wasn't, it was convincing.
"It's okay...," I assured him, my face still held in my hands. "You sure?" He asked, still embarrassed. "Yeah, it's fine." "Do you forgive me? I'm really sorry." "Yeah, yeah." I responded, still feeling dazed, "I- I think I'm just going to head home now..." "Can you even walk? You look very pale... You can stay here for awhile longer..." He persuaded, "I can get you another glass of water, if that will help? Or you can come back up and lay down on my bed for some rest?" "Uh, you really don't-" "Come on."
Naruto helped me stand back up and led me back up to his apartment. He sat me down on his bed and I laid down. Naruto walked over and picked up my glass from earlier. "Here." He put the glass on the bed side table.
I thanked him and shut my eyes, because I felt tired after the current event.
Naruto must've been watching T.V., because I heard the T.V. mumbling every few often when I started to wake up. It sounded like a game show, or a talk show. Either that, or I was having a very, very weird dream.
