Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

Alex's eyes slowly fluttered open and he groaned as his alarm began to blare out a series of loud, annoying beeps. He rolled over and turned it off, but instead of actually getting out of bed he just curled back up in his blankets. Around fifteen minutes later his door was quietly opened and Dolly walked into his room to wake him up.

"Alex," he groaned and rolled over to face Dolly, "you have to get up little man," she whispered. Alexander snapped his eyes open. Something she had said had caught his attention.

Alex jumped up off his bed and looked Dolly straight in the eyes and said, "I'm NOT little! You're just tall" Alexander's sudden outburst caused Dolly to giggle and he just scoffed while folding his arms.

"Okay, well, Alex you need to go get ready. You leave for the college today," she instructed, regaining order. He just nodded his head and shooed Dolly out of his room.

When she closed the door Alex sleepily grabbed a dark grey hoodie with white lettering saying 'I NEED COFFEE' and light blue jeans. He brought them to the bathroom down the hall to change into after his shower.

 "" * "" ** "" * ""

He walked out of the bathroom once all of his morning hygiene routine had been completed, his hair now pulled into a messy bun. The heavenly smell of bacon immediately wafted into Alex's nose as he walked down the hallway into the kitchen.

"Yes! Bacon! Thank you!" Alex cheered, giving Dolly a tight hug around her torso.

She chuckled in response, "You're welcome BIG guy." He rolled his eyes and got a bagel from the bread box. He then spread cream cheese, from the fridge, on his bagel and put it on a plate along with some bacon.

"Where's James? I thought his shift didn't start 'til 11," Alex asked through a mouthful of bagel. He swallowed his bite and looked at Dolly expectantly for an answer.

"James got called into work early today. He says he is sorry he won't get to see you off to college," Dolly stated with a soft tone. "And why don't you have a drink young man?" She demanded, almost immediately changing to a more strict demeanor.

Alex shrunk in his seat before sliding out of it to grab a glass of milk. "Sorry," he quietly mumbled while slipping back into his chair, milk in hand.

"Well, anyway, when you're finished eating you have to leave for your dorm," Dolly explained as she walked to the living room to watch TV.

Alex thought more about having to leave Dolly and James to go stay at some college dorm. His roommate may turn out to be a total asshole that won't leave him alone. The thought made him stressed a bit so he tried to push it from his head. He should be excited, this is the next step in his schooling career. During high school, going to college seemed like a great opportunity. Now it just seemed like a prison with no option to bail out. Sure Alex could just drop out of college or skip it all together but then he would feel like a disappointment to both himself, Dolly, and James. So it seems the only thing he could do was go to college and push through it.

Alexander finished his breakfast and cleaned his dishes before walking sluggishly to his room. "I really don't wanna go to that hell-hole," he muttered to himself as he put on his backpack and dragged his suitcase to the front door which leads into the living room. He made sure to put on a more chipper expression before saying goodbye to Dolly.

"Welp, I guess it's time for me to go Dolly," Alex said walking over to hug her. She stood up and engulfed him in a tight bear hug.

" You make sure to visit, okay? " Dolly said as she moved her hands to grip his cheeks, her voice cracking a bit. Alex rarely saw this side of her, the more vulnerable one.

"Of course! I'll visit as much as possible," he hugged her tighter if that was even possible. " I love you, and I'll miss you the whole time I'm there, " Dolly's sadness was starting to rub off onto him and Alex began to tear up. Dolly gave Alex a kiss on the top of his head before breaking the hug.

"Love you too Kiddo," she quietly choked out, sadly smiling at him. She walked Alex to the door and he grabbed his suitcase's handle. She remained in the doorway while he walked to his car and put the suitcase in the trunk along with his backpack. Alex turned to look at Dolly and waved at her. He then rounded to the drivers side of his car and drove away.
