Chapter 7. The Garden

∼ 🗝 ∼

Today Flora and Miles are going to show us their garden. I'm quite excited actually. I've always loved gardens. They're so peaceful and there are so many little animals you can find running around. I followed closely behind Kate and Flora as we were heading down the slightly gravelly path towards the koi pond.

As I was admiring my surroundings, I suddenly hear running on the gravel surface and Flora yelling, "No Miles stop it! Leave the poor thing alone!" "Miles stop it Kate yelled!"

I looked to see what was happening, and there was a koi fish that was slightly picked at by a bird. Miles stopped in front of the koi, and began to stomp on it.

I looked at him wide eyed and Flora starting crying. "Miles stop!" She screamed. "Miles!" Was all that Kate was able to say as she held Flora in front of her. He finally stopped when the fish became still.

"Nothing should have to suffer." He said with a dead look on his face. I mean in that sense, he's not wrong. That was extremely violent, but there really wasn't anything else that could be done to get it out of its misery right away.

My face had a slight frown, and I looked at Miles empathetically. He stared at me and if I was actually seeing this right, his face seemed to soften as he saw my reaction.

I felt a slight warmth rise up my face. "We're going back." Kate said seeming pissed, but I could tell she was actually scared. Scared of the thing that she thought possessed Miles. But obviously nothing was possessing him, he chose to end its suffering. It seems like he did that because he didn't want the fish to suffer like he did.

I let my mind continue to ramble as we all trudged back to the manor in silence. I do feel bad for Miles and Flora, that's obvious and any person would. But it's much deeper for me, I try and see behind the peculiar actions of the two. I try and emphasize with them, and how pain can cause others to do crazy things because they think they're protecting others. I'd say I know this is for 100% sure, but I'm not Miles or Flora, only they themselves can prove this point further. I can just try and unveil the evidence to support it. The human brain is a very interesting thing indeed, especially a brain that has had to deal with massive trauma.

I finally saw the manor house and walked towards the greenhouse. "Where are you going Y/N?" Kate asked. "Oh I was going to the greenhouse. Can I?" "Of course just come back inside for lunch okay?" "Yes ma'am." I said and waved as I walked to the door. The door creaked as I opened it, and I tried to look for a nice place to sit and ponder. I saw the bird bath with Flora's dolls in it and smiled. I wish I could live here everyday for the rest of my life, it's so beautiful here. The history of this house is also dark apparently, and I find that very interesting. I walked admiring all of the beautiful plants and the roof above me that was glass. Man I wish I had this at home, and I giggled to myself.

I finally found an old stone bench to sit on, and it had beautiful flowers engraved on it. I sat there and just stared into space. I should've brought my cassette though. But anyway about Miles and Flora. I think Miles does really crazy and violent things for attention, wait no. He does them because he feels like he doesn't really have an outlet, besides playing music. I'm sure if he could play his instruments everyday without stopping he'd feel a lot better. Wait no that sounds stupid as hell. Well anyway, Flora has a lot of dolls. It's normal for a girl her age to do that of course, but some of them, their heads are decapitated. Which I wouldn't think is normal? I wonder....

I kept thinking until someone randomly clapped their hands in my face. "Y/N!" It was Flora. "How come you didn't see me until I clapped?" She said extremely confused. "Oh I'm sorry Flora, I just got really lost in what I was thinking." Shit I got lost in thought again. "Oh okay! Well it's lunch time now! Let's go Y/N!" She said extending her tiny hand for me to take. I got up and took it, then we headed inside.
