Dress Up Day

It was a special day for Midtown High School, for its students and faculty could dress up as their favorite superhero. Everyone was taking it seriously and was very excited, except for a young and tired Peter Parker. Peter had been patrolling very late last night, stopping two robberies and three muggings. To be frank, for such an exciting day, he was out of it. If not for his aunt, he would have skipped school and slept the whole day. So, he put on his fake Ironman suit (Tony would not let him use a real one) and headed to school.

As expected, everyone was dressed up. Peter saw people dressed up as all the heroes he knew, he even saw a Deadpool costume, he would have to tell Wade about that later. It was hard to recognize some people, but he did see some people he knew. Unfortunately, one of them was Flash Thompson, Peter was not having a good a day and this was not making it any better. Flash was dressed up as Spiderman, oh the irony, ok so maybe it was not so bad. MJ was dressed up as The Black Widow, Liz was dressed up as Captain Marvel, and even Betty dressed up as Gamora. Peter saw everyone except his best friend, Ned Leeds.

Ned had taken a different perspective for the “dress up as your favorite hero” theme of the day. See, he had decided to dress up as the person instead of the hero. The problem, this hero wore a mask and had a secret identity. Ned and Flash had coordinating costumes, well Flash did not know that, but if Ned kept it up he would soon. Ned had on a science pun shirt, a sweatshirt, jeans, and some sneakers on. It was no coincidence that his best friend loved science puns. It was no coincidence that Ned was hiding from Peter. That's right, Ned Leeds was dressed up as Peter Parker. By the end of the day, Midtown would not know what hit them.

Peter moved along with the rest of his day and did not see Ned until fourth period. They had a history class together and to say he was shocked would be an understatement, Peter went from shock to absolute fear. You could visibly see the blood drain from his face. Peter tried to stay calm because a reaction would certainly raise suspicion. As he sat next to Ned, he had a strong urge to bitch slap him. Peter refrained, and instead whisper shouted at Ned.

 “WHY”

“I thought you would be happy! You’re my favorite hero!”

“Ned! It. Is. A. Secret. Identity. For. A. Reason.”

“Oh come on! Loosen up a little.”

That was when the two were interrupted by their teacher sending them to the principle’s office.

Ned and Peter were sentenced to detention, which was not too bad. While Captain America’s voice drowned on in the background, Peter reflected on his day. His identity was not revealed, and even though he had a couple of heart attacks, he felt touched that Ned would dress up as him. Not Spiderman, but Peter Parker.
