"You lost!" The two words every merc hated to hear was announced through the speakers in the RED base. You didn't know how you lost, you only knew that you were doing what you were supposed to.

But that didn't stop your fellow mercs to look at with you disgust as you put your gear away in your locker. It wasn't even your fault. You sighed, and looked at Sniper, the only person who treated you like an equal, and you loved him for that. But as you looked in his eyes, you only saw disappointment. You saw the disappointment in his eyes that you saw in every. Other. Mercenary. Win or lose. It didn't matter, you didn't belong there.

"I guess I was wrong. I see that now, you're just like everyone else." You said as he walked past you. He froze, and turned towards you, disappointment forming into a mixture of shock and sadness.
"(Y/N) I-'' He started, but you cut him off.
"No, don't even start, I saw how you looked at me." You spat, turning around to face him. "I thought you were the only who accepted me, and now I realize that I was a fool. You're just as bad as them. You, Sniper, you were the only one who kept me here. Who kept me from leaving this place. I used to love this job, now it's a blur. Every day, every battle, it's all the same now..."

You couldn't continue your speech, the words forming but you couldn't get them out. You ran into the common room, tears forming in your eyes. You ran into the hallway, into your room, wanting to escape the laughter, and the pity, and the mocking that came every day.

Throwing yourself on your bed, you let the tears pour, wanting it all to end. After a few hours of reading, laying down, and feeling sorry for yourself passed, you put on a hoodie and prepared yourself to face the nightmare outside.

You opened the door, and walked into the common room. All conversation died down fast as you went to the fridge and grabbed a salad. You faced them, a bolt of courage shooting through you. "Woahhhh, it's (Y/N)! The screw-up, the outcast, the only female merc on both teams! Wowww!" You shot with feigned surprise. "Yeah, I'm here. Big news. Call the president for all I care. Just get over yourselves. You blame me for every loss, even if I didn't mess up once. Even if we win! Don't even begin to think I don't see how you look at me." You glared at all of them, and then looked at Sniper.

"And you! I have no words. I trusted you. You were the only person who treated me like I'm a human. I can't... anymore, with any of you." You stood there for another second, and walked back to your room, not oblivious to the laughter that followed.

You set the salad on your nightstand, and looked towards the balcony. Sighing, you walked over and opened the doors, walking to the rail. Grabbing onto the railing, you squeezed your eyes shut, tears starting to form. The moonlight used to be so peaceful, but now it looked down on you like it was mocking you.

The sound of a door opening disrupted you from your thoughts, but you didn't turn around, expecting it to be Medic, the leader and the person who persecuted you the most.

"(Y/N), what are you doing? I'm sorry, for before, I was tired, I was mad at myself-" The deep but urgent voice of Sniper filled the balcony.

"Snipe, I want you to leave. I don't want you to see this." You said as you sat on the rail. "Please, don't make this worse. The team will be better off without me."

"No, you're wrong and you know it." Sniper sputtered. "Don't do this to me, (Y/N)!" He walked over to you and wrapped his arms around your waist. "I... I hated being a mercenary here until you came. You were the bright spot in my life. You made everything better."

You turned around. "Snipes..." You started.

"Mundy- my name is Mundy."

"Well, M-Mundy, I had no idea." You said softly. He looked at you and put his hand on your jaw, thumb resting on your cheek.

"If you left me... I don't know what I'd do." He admitted. He searched your eyes for an answer.

"I..." You faltered and looked away. He enveloped you in another hug.

"You are so much better than the others. Never forget that..."
