I really want to do something nice for Spy. Maybe I could make him a gift basket? I head to the store and pick out some things
I got a clown coffee mug, a cool lighter, a movie, and some candy, and put it in a small bucket.
I walked past his house and dropped it on the porch and knocked. I don't think he's home, so I'll leave it here for him.
I went back to work, giggling like a school girl
"So this is what love is like," I thought to myself walking to the diner. It feels good, like warm sheets and fuzzy socks. Sure, I've had boyfriends before, but they never made me feel the way spy does. I think I've finally found a good one. I smile as make my way back.
Later that day, I get a call.
"Hey, thanks for the gifts, that was really thoughtful of you!" He said happily. "No problem, that bracelet was so nice I couldn't just not give you anything in return!" I said. "Do you wanna come with me on a walk later?" I ask. "Of course! I'll see you later!" He said.
I met him outside of his work, and we started walking. He held my hand, and told jokes to make me laugh. I told him about my day, and the recent town gossip.
We sat on a bench and watched the sun set together.
"This is so perfect"I whisper.
I leaned against him and he played with my hair.
"You're so perfect" he said softly.
We sat there until it was dark, and then he walked me back home.
Later that night, I got the call I had been dreading.
"Mom?"
"Honey? Is it really you, are you ok??"
"Yeah mom, I'm ok"
"Why can't you just come home baby, everybody wants you back here."
"Mom, it wouldn't be safe for you if I were home, you know what happened to Andrew"
"But what if she didn't do it? I don't think she did it, why are you so afraid of her?"
"Because I saw her mom!" I was upset and yelling now
"She'll hurt me and you guys if she found out I know, and I'm not going to let that happen!"
"Y/n use your sense, we need you here to testify against her! If you actually saw what you saw, that'll break the case right open! They have systems if you are afraid you'll get hurt, but you need to come home and face it!"
I'm trying not to cry.
"But mom, I'm so scared, what if something happens to you or dad?"
"Hun, we'll be fine, we need you home now."
"Ok. I'll be there soon."
I lie down and try not to cry.
I don't know if I can do what needs to be done, but I need to go face it. I got my things in order, and let my boss know I might not be in for a few days.
I needed to tell spy.
I ran back to his house in the pitch black night. I knocked
"Please be home, please be home" I hoped
The door opened. Thank goodness! "Hey, I need to talk to you." Spy sees that I'm upset
"Hey, hey, what happened? Are you safe?" He asked, concerned.
"Yes, but I'm leaving for a few days. I need to tell you why."
"Wha- why are you leaving, you just got settled? What's going on?" He looked confused and I don't blame him.
"So basically, my brother was murdered by his girlfriend, and I'm the only witness."
"Wait what really??? That's so fucked up!" Spy said shocked.
He took my hand
"And now I need to go back and testify against her, which I've been avoiding, because she's threatening me. I'm really scared she's going to hurt my parents."
"Hey, it's going to be ok, just breathe" spy said reassuringly
Why was he so calm?!?
"You can do this, I believe in you, and you need to get justice for your brother." I was starting to calm down a little.
"Can I do anything to help you?" He asked. I don't know.
"Could you just sit with me for a little bit?"
"Of course" He turned on a movie and held me softly in his arms.
He rubbed my back, and I eventually fell asleep.
Spy's pov
I'm speechless. I mean, how could I possibly find words for something as fucked up as this.
So that's why she always cried at night. I got her to fall asleep, then I thought about it. I don't want to freak her out, but I'm worried.
