Back in Colby's the soft hum of the air conditioning filled the silence. Colby and I settled into the couch with our tub of coconut ice cream, a perfect pair for a night of unwinding. The weight of the day's events still clung to me, but Colby's presence made everything a little more bearable.
Colby grabbed a couple of spoons and handed one to me, his usual easy-going demeanor back in full swing. He opened the tub and took a generous scoop, the creamy texture seeming to brighten his mood.
"So, are we eating this whole tub?" Colby asked, flashing me a playful grin.
"Absolutely," I replied, attempting to match his light-hearted tone. "It's a matter of principle."
We both dug into the ice cream, the cold sweetness a welcome distraction from the emotional turmoil. As the minutes ticked by, the ice cream began to work its magic, and the conversation naturally shifted.
"So, tell me something good," Colby said, his tone gentle as he scooped another spoonful.
I looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "Something good? Like what?"
"Anything," he said, shrugging. "You've had a rough day. Let's balance it out with some positivity."
I pondered for a moment, the familiar ache in my chest slowly dulling. "Well, I've always wanted to take up painting. Maybe I could start that?"
Colby nodded encouragingly. "That's a great idea. Art's therapeutic. You should totally give it a try."
We chatted about plans and dreams, and for a while, the pain from earlier seemed to fade into the background. Colby was always good at making me see the bright side, even when I struggled to find it myself.
"I'm glad you're here, Colby," I said quietly, my voice softer now. "I don't know what I would've done without you today."
He looked at me with a mix of warmth and determination. "That's what friends are for, Blair. You'd do the same for me, and you know it."
We fell into a comfortable silence, the sound of our spoons scraping against the bottom of the tub creating a soothing rhythm. The minutes seemed to stretch on, and I felt a profound sense of peace settling over me.
"Hey, you want to watch something? A movie or maybe a show?" Colby suggested after a while, breaking the silence.
"Sure," I agreed. "Let's go for something light. No dramas tonight."
Colby grinned and picked up the remote, scrolling through the options. "How about we revisit some classic comedy? I think we could both use a laugh."
"Perfect," I said, smiling for the first time since earlier that day. "Surprise me."
He chose a classic comedy film, and soon, the room was filled with laughter and the comforting glow of the TV. The familiar jokes and silly antics on screen provided a welcome distraction, and for the first time in hours, I felt a sense of normalcy return.
As the movie played, Colby's presence beside me was a constant source of comfort. His easy-going demeanor and the way he effortlessly made me laugh reminded me of why he was such an important part of my life. Despite everything that had happened, I found solace in the fact that I wasn't alone.
The film ended, and Colby turned to me, his expression both serious and caring. "You know, Blair, it's okay to feel sad. It's okay to take your time to heal. Just remember, you don't have to go through it alone."
"I know," I said, nodding. "And I'm really grateful for you, Colby."
He smiled, giving me a reassuring pat on the back. "Anytime. You're stuck with me, whether you like it or not."
As the night wore on, I began to feel more at ease. The pain of the day still lingered, but with Colby by my side, I felt a renewed sense of hope. The road to recovery would be long, but I knew I had a friend who would help me navigate it.
Eventually, we cleaned up the ice cream and the remnants of the movie night, he gave me one last reassuring hug before I headed off to my room.
"Remember, Blair," he said softly, "you're stronger than you think. You've got this."
"Thanks, Colby," I replied, my voice filled with gratitude. "I'll keep that in mind."
