He refused to look away, even as his lips trembled and his shoulders heaved with emotion, unwilling to back down.
His dark lashes brimmed heavy with tears. His hands clenched into shaking fists, in a desperate battle against the grief.
A lone tear traced down his cheek, and just like that, the floodgates opened.
tears streaming from his deep brown eyes, loud, heaving sobs tearing from his throat, and still he did not look away. Not until the sobs drove him to his knees did his determined gaze fall.
He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me close, gently rubbing my arm. Despite the heaviness in my stomach, it fluttered at the feeling of my body pressed against his.
I sunk into the warmth of his side, appreciative of the simple gesture. His touch made the room warmer somehow, my future within its walls seeming a little less bleak.
he gently let go.
"i'm gonna go get you something to eat, ok."
he wiped his salty lovesick tears away and walked out.
