chapter 1

Life in Nairobi wasn't something you'd have imagined after all. Everything was different from whatever everyone had said. Or maybe I see it all differently.

Turns out my classes today "bounced" so I was just lazing around in my room. I love my sleep and of course I found such times as the best opportunities to not get out of bed.

Well in case your wondering am Tessa. Am 19 years old, turning 20 in a month duh.. I just joined university and am studying English Literature. Nairobi University wasn't really my dream school but this is where I got accepted so am here.

I checked the time and it was already 11:23am. I needed to get up and shower. It was on a Friday and my best friend, Victoria, wanted us to hang out. Probably wondering how I have a best friend and am just a week old in school, well Vic had been my best friend since highschool and I was lucky enough to have her in the same school.

I got up and headed for the bathroom. After a quick refreshing bath, I put on black jeans and a white crop top. The outside looked a bit chilly so I chose to go with my black high-heeled boots and a denim jacket.

By the time I was done it was already 1pm and I called Vic to confirm if we were still meeting at the same spot.

"Teessss" she shouted my name on the phone.
"What's with all that hype Vic?" I asked rolling my eyes.
"Oh c'mon, a girl gotta live" now I could tell that she was the one rolling her eyes.
"Whatever, are we still meeting or did you cancel on me again?"
Last time we were to meet she stood me up saying her boyfriend wasn't feeling well. He apparently happens to be in the Sam school as all of us.

"Tess you know am sorry for last time. Ain't canceling on you this time thou buuutt.."
There we go, the way that sounded am sure it was something I didn't like.

"..we'll be hanging out with some of Dave's friends as well" she completed now in a softer voice. David was her boyfriend who was an year ahead of us.

"What do you mean Dave's friends? Vic you know am not comfortable around new people" I whined.
"Relax Tess, I'll be with you. Now meet us at the mall." She didn't even let me answer jeez, she's so annoying.

I quickly called a cab and was on my way. I didn't know what she meant whit Dave's friends, but am kinda glad it not just her and Dave I don't want to be a third wheel.

It was a thirty mins drive so it didn't even take me long.

Immediately I got out of the cab I could see Vic standing outside the mall with a groups of around five other people.

"Look who's heree..." Vic was shouting immediately her eyes landed on me.

"Jeez Vic will you stop, you attracting attention" people were starting to look at us.

Vic rolled her eyes as she pulled me for a hug.

"Tess, meet Blake, Keith, Brian and Cate they are our friends" she introduced them referring to her and Dave.

"And you guys meet Tessa, my best friend" I extended my hand to greet them except Dave who pulled me for a hug.

The plan was to get some snacks then go watch a movie at Dave's place. Am literally the only one who was living in the hostel since my mom didn't believe I was responsible enough to live in my own house.

We got some biscuits, crisps, popcorns and a bottle of vodka. I didn't have any plans of getting myself drunk today but it looked like they had different plans.

We passed through the ice cream section in the mall and now I wanted my favorite vanilla ice cream.

"So you love ice cream" I heard a voice behind me. Not just a voice but a beautiful calming voice. Deep, soft and very calm. It took me almost a minute to turn and when I finally did, I was literally looking at the cutest man I'd ever seen.

He had a perfect body, sure liked like one who worked out. The strong arm muscles could be seen from the black t-shirt he was wearing. I didn't fail to notice those full pink lips. Omg, no one ever told me that greek gods actually existed. But here I was looking at one.

"Like what you see" there came the voice again. Cutting me off from my silly thoughts.
