Ian and I had been friends for like, ever. My parents were close friends with his parents, and that was how I got to know him.

We ate together, played together, and even went overseas together.

Although they lived far from our house, we usually visited his house, and vice-versa.

And, slowly, I grew to like him. But there was one problem. I wasn't pretty.

We grew up together, so I never cared about how I behaved around him. We played catching and made up new games to play together with our siblings, and I liked it whenever our skin made contact.

Whenever we played hide-and-seek, I'd hide with him, squeezing myself in with him.

But, as we grew older, I seemed to be more cautious of how I behaved infront of him. And, as we grew, I grew fatter.

Adding on to my non pretty face, I definitely didn't look attractive.

Sometimes, my brother would make fun of me being fat, and then Ian would join in. I was upset, but his jokes were funny, nonetheless.

When we played who-can-jump-the-farthest game, I could only jump 3 squares while my brother, Ian, and his sister could jump at least 4 squares.

It kind of made me the outcast, and whenever I'd jump, I'd make a loud thump, and my brother would make fun of me.

Ian would join in too, and joke ," Whoa, the floor cracked!" He pretended to look down and wave. "Hellooo, I can see you downstairs."

I'd laugh at that, and think that although he made fun of me, he meant to lift up the mood.

I wished that were the case.

As we got older, I was glad he went to a boy's school, and I'd smile whenever I think about it.

It was Ian's birthday, and he invited me and my family over to his barbeque.

I was excited, but my hopes shattered when I arrived.

When we arrived, my parents started chatting with Ian's parents.

My brother immediately jumped over to the array of food.

It was such a party.

But what I saw broke my heart.

But then I saw Ian, strolling with one arm over a girl's.

They were laughing cherrily and chatting away to their heart's content.

I was such a loser, thinking he would like me.
