I woke up at 6 in the morning, my little brother was screaming like crazy. I, quickly, got up and ran to his room. He was thrashing in his bed, kicking and screaming. Just like last night.
I knew what this was. He has these nightmares a lot. He never talks about them. It's like when he gets up for the day, he doesn't remember them. We have to inform him when he's had a "bad night". I was always there to help him with them. But he never told me what they're about. They usually scare me. The kid is only 11 years old and he's already screaming bloody murder almost every night. He should be a kid. He shouldn't have to worry about these kinds of things.
I jumped on top off him, despite his unconscious protests and swinging arms and legs. I pinned his hands above his head on his pillow, he was sweating so much. "Hey, Adam. Wake up. It's okay baby. It's okay." I whispered to him in a soothing voice.
He started calming down. I let go of his arms, he was still shaking. I touched his forehead, softly, with the back of my hand. I could tell he was awake now, but he was squeezing his eyes shut, tightly. "W-who are y-you?" He asked, in a terrified voice. "It's um-" my voice cracked as I was on the verge of tears. "It's just Ella, baby. It's just me. I'm right here." I grabbed his hand and held it in mine.
Slowly, he opened his eyes. When he saw it truly was me, his face filled with relief. Just then I felt something wet on my butt. I got up, and his face flushed with embarrassment. "I peed." He said, looking at our hands. "It's okay, baby. Let's get it cleaned."
I stripped his bed clean, while he changed into some dry clothes. When he got back into his room, I had already put the sheets to wash. I reached my hand out, "come on" I said , as I walked towards him. He grabbed my hand and followed me out the room.
We lay on my bed. I had my left arm wrapped around him, and my right hand was touching his hair, calming him to sleep. "Ella?" He said. "Hmm?" I wondered, "I love you," he said. "I love you too, baby." I replied. Then I started humming lullabies for him. He fell asleep in about twenty minutes.
