 Part 1

Kashaf forgot about the coffee brewing in the small pan as she was putting the butter on the hot Prantha that she had made for her. Her mouth began to water on watching the butter deliciously melting on the Prantha.

"I'm waiting for Coffee Kashaf" Kareem screamed sitting on a chair beside his mother. Kareem, a boy who loved to spend most of his time in the company of his friends and of course he was a spendthrift.

"I'm just bringing your coffee Kareem" She hastily fetched the plate of Prantha in one hand and the cup of coffee in the other. After giving coffee to Kareem she dragged a chair for her and began to eat her breakfast. At same time Zoya rose up.

"Hurry up Kashaf, we are getting late for college." she said lifting her bag up.

"Be Patient Zoya she has not finished her breakfast yet." Latif, Kashaf's maamu said while dialling someone's number in his phone. Zoya looked at her mother who ushered her to go, so Zoya began to walk outside not listening to her father. Latif shook his head thinking about his daughter who was becoming just like her mother.

"Wait Zoya, let me finish my breakfast" Kashaf said but Zoya had already gone outside the house.

Kashaf hastily ate her breakfast, and gulped her tea. Kashaf's naani came out of her room with Kashaf's bag in her hand. Taking her bag from her Kashaf kissed her naani and hurriedly walked towards the gate.

"Wait..." She yelled running after Zoya in small steps...

Tramping on the lonely way between the houses and gardens Kashaf saw a house sparrow on the wire.

"It's the first sparrow I've spotted this year. They're on the verge of extinction." She said turning her face to Zoya. Zoya took her phone out of her bag and began to text her friend.

( In phone )

Zoya: Hi Elisha. Reaching clj in 5min

Elisha : ok:-) waiting 4 u near the gate

She ignored Kashaf again when Kashaf was saying

"Thank God we have gardens in these areas, otherwise ..." she trailed off and twirled in front of Zoya on her toes, while stretching her arms to take Zoya's attention she said

"Don't you love this chirping of birds, scents of flowers and breezes full of mild fragrance of leaves? It sets my heartbeat at a peaceful pace. We can't buy these things with money. Just Feel Them! "

Zoya stopped for a while with her hand on her waist saying,

"Kashaf stop wasting your time feeling these types of things. You're 18 now, we can't buy these things with money" Zoya snuffled, mimicking Kashaf and she got busy with her phone again...

Kashaf was sitting alone on the middle desk in the first row before Zoya and Elisha, with her hands over the desk and chin over them. She was lost in her usual thoughts about her mother's death and her father leaving her after her mother's death' She recalled that faded memory of the day she was brought to her uncle's house after her mother's death.

Her naani rang the bell holding 6 years old Kashaf's hand in her hand. Jasmina, Latif's wife opened the door and got filled up with anger on seeing Kashaf with her.

"I can't bear her more than a week in my home." Jasmina said walking toward the lounge. Naani remained silent while Jasmina was saying this. Kashaf's uncle was sitting on the sofa in the lounge, sadly looking at pictures of him that were with his sister. He stood up from the couch when he saw little Kashaf. Kneeling down he stretched his arms with a bright smile and little Kashaf ran towards her uncle, cutely saying "Mamuu".
