Mikumo yawned softly and stretched as he woke up. He got out of bed and got dressed into some shorts and a plain black tank top. He walked out of his room and slowly made his way towards the kitchen. When he walked in, he saw his parents sat down at the table, signing papers. Mikumo slowly made his way towards the duo and sat at the table. "What are you two doing?" the soon to be six year old asked. "Don't worry about it buddy." his father said while smiling softly at him. Confused, he shrugged it off and got up to make some breakfast. "So. You excited for your birthday?" Hisashi asked him."Mhm!" he hummed. "What do you want for your birthday kiddo?" he asked as Inko walked out of the room, taking the papers with her. "I want Tenko to get his quirk!" Mikumo said proudly. His father sighed but smiled. "What is something that I could get you?" he asked again. "Ummm... Oh! Can I get some video games?" he asked. "Video game, huh?" Hisashi mumbled. He smiled and ruffled his hair. "I'll see what I can do buddy." he told him. Mikumo giggles and sat down and started eating.
[At Mikumo's birthday (2 months later since it was after Katsuki's birthday)]
Mikumo was playing with some of his friends, when Bakugo walked over towards him. "Mikumo." he said, catching the raven haired boy's attention. "Yes Bakugo?" he responded. "Happy Birthday." he mumbled while handing over a box. "What is it?" Mikumo asked. "Open it." Bakugo said. Mikumo just stared at him before slowly opening the box. Inside the box, was something that was definitely unexpected. It was a lighter. "H-how?" he questioned. "I stole it from my mom." he shrugged. "B-but-" he stuttered. Bakugo just winked at him before walking off. Mikumo just ignored it and shoved it into his shorts pocket.
He put the box on a table and walked back to Tenko and his sister. "Happy birthday!" Hana told him. "Thanks!" he beamed. "H-happy birthday Mikumo." Tenko stuttered before shoving a box into his hands. "Thanks Tenko!" Mikumo thanked him, oblivious to the slight blush on his face. "I'll be over at the snacks. Happy birthday Mikumo." Hana told them before walking over towards the snacks. "It's loud huh?" Mikumo says, trying to start up a conversation. "Y-yeah. Not a fan of crowds?" Tenko asked. "Not really." Mikumo shrugged. "Wanna go inside?" Tenko suggested. "Sure." Mikumo agreed as the two walked inside. Not as many people were inside which they were thankful for.
"Can I open the present?" Mikumo asked the younger boy. "I-.. S-sure." Tenko stuttered out. Mikumo opened the box to see a video game and a necklace. "What's this?" Mikumo asked. "W-well. I remember you talking about this one game you wanted. So I bugged my mom until she agreed to buy it for me." Tenko mumbled quietly. "Thanks!" Mikumo beamed before hugging the boy. The red eyed boy blushed a deep red, matching his eyes. "What about this?" Mikumo asked while holding up the necklace. "Oh. Well, I have a matching one. That way, we can be friends forever!" Tenko explained while pulling a similar styled necklace out from his shirt.
"Thanks Tenko! Best present ever!" Mikumo told the younger. Tenko laughed softly, blushing like crazy. "Mikumo! Kiddo, time for cake!" Hisashi called while peeking his head inside the house. Mikumo nodded and grabbed Tenko's hand. "Come on!" he said while pulling him softly back outside. He set the game down on the coffee table and slipped on the necklace before rushing towards the table where the cake was at. Tenko stood near Mikumo and sung the 'Happy Birthday' song along with everyone else. Mikumo pauses for a second to make his wish before blowing his candles out. "What did you wish for, nerd?" Bakugo asked him. "I can't tell you dummy." he told the blonde. Bakugo just made a 'tch' noise before waiting for his slice of cake. It was a simple white frosted cake with some red frosted details. On the cake, was written in black was 'Happy Birthday Mikumo!!'.
The rest of the party went smoothly, nothing bad happening. No fights. Nothing. Everything was perfect.
That night, Mikumo snuck out onto the roof to meet Kurogiri. He would meet up with him every other day. They would talk about whatever. When Mikumo sat down, he grabbed at the little snake head on the necklace and rubbed his thumb over the small details. His was a snake while Tenko's was a fox. The game was just something that's popular, specifically a shooter game. (not fortnite lol) Of course his dad knew about the game and gave permission, otherwise Tenko's mom wouldn't have bought it for a six year old. Mikumo sighed softly and ran a hand through his hair. He then dig his hand into his pocket of his sweatpants. Inside was the lighter that Bakugo gave him.
"How was your birthday Akatani?" Kurogiri asked the boy while sitting down next to him. "It was great." Mikumo said truthfully. "Although I am confused." he added quietly. "With what?" Kurogiri asked him. "My friend.. Bakugo.. he gave me a lighter." he told the adult. "How did he even get one?" Kurogiri asked, equally confused. "He apparently stole it from his mom. What confuses me more is that he didn't explain why he gave it to me. Instead he winked. What does that even mean!" Mikumo exclaimed the last part. "He.. winked?" Kurogiri repeated. "I don't get it." Mikumo complained while rubbing his face. "Well. I hope this present isn't as confusing." Kurogiri said before pulling out a small bag. Mikumo sat up and looked over at him.
"Happy birthday kid." Kurogiri told him as he watched the birthday boy open the bag. Mikumo pulled a couple of books out of the bag then pulled out some pens and pencils. "Huh?" he asked, slightly confused. "They are notebooks to write down ideas or whatever you want. And some sketch and colouring books. As well as some pencils and pens." he explains. Mikumo's face lit up and launched himself at the man. "Thank you!" he said while hugging him. "Of course." he told the kid while hugging back softly. The two pulled apart and looked up at the sky. "Mr. Kurogiri. I have a question." Mikumo spoke up. "Yes, Akatani." Kurogiri says softly. "How come I've never met your boss?" he asked. Kurogiri sighed softly, trying to figure out how to explain it to a child. "Maybe soon." he said, instead of providing any actual explanation. "Okay." he muttered.
The two stayed quiet for a bit longer until Mikumo yawned. "Alright birthday boy. You should probably go to bed. It's really late. Way to late for a six year old to be up." Kurogiri told him. He nodded slowly and gathered his gift together. He put everything back into its bag and slowly stood up. He went to walk, only to slip. Kurogiri quickly caught him. "I'll help you to bed." he told him softly, only for it to fall into deaf ears as Mikumo was fast asleep. Kurogiri sighed softly, before smiling at Mikumo's peaceful state. Instead of the many emotions that run through this boy, it was complete peace.
He held the back in one hand while carrying little Mikumo in the other. He somehow was able to open his window and slipped inside soundlessly. He set the gift down near his other gifts before walking over towards the boy's bed. He lowered Mikumo down, only for something to fall out of his sweatpants pocket. He picked up a small lighter and inspected it. 'This must be the lighter that Bakugo kid gave him.' he thought to himself. He mentally frowned before setting the lighter instead of the gift bag he gave Mikumo. He made sure it wasn't super noticeable, but he should be able to find it. He walked back over to his bed and laid him down and tucked him in. "Happy Birthday Mikumo Akatani." he told him before opening up a portal and walking through it to disappear. The portal closed and left nothing that really signified that he was there.
