The bus pulled to a complete stop right in front of me. The white bus had the school name plastered on the side. The chatter from the other girls filled the hot July air. And I was already annoyed with the situation. I didn't want to be here but didn't have any other choice.

"Okay ladies, let's get moving. We have a 3 hour bus ride ahead of us."

Great, 3 hours stuck on a bus with people I don't even know. I was the last to get on and almost didn't. Unfortunately I dragged my feet up the stairs and was stopped by the captain at the front.

"I'd like to introduce our newest teammate McLane. She just joined so let's make her feel welcomed" the tall redhead announced the bus full of girls.

A few heys and hellos were thrown my way by the others. I was offered a seat next to the redhead who was also the captain, Emily. Instead of dealing with small talk I put in my AirPods, and blocked out everyone for the next 3 hours. The bus finally came to a stop at the
camp entrance. Ultimate frisbee camp. Frisbee wasn't my first choice, but I needed something to put on my resume.

"Welcome ladies! Thank you for joining us this week, we can't wait to have an awesome time. But for today we're going to let you settle in and get to know the other teams. So I'll show you your bunks and let you be." An official at the camp helped unload our bags and showed us to our cabin. I took in my surroundings on the walk there and was slightly impressed. The camp had a lake, nice buildings, and clean fields. The other teams filled the area like swarming ants, and my anxiety went through the roof. I've never liked being in places with large crowds.

We finally arrived at our assigned cabin and it held up to the rest of the camp. It was a nice wood cabin with a formal living area, and separate rooms that had bunk beds with shared bathrooms. All the other girls seem to pair off leaving me without a room to stay in.

"No worries, you can bunk with me" Emily offered as she walked by giving me a soft smile. I followed her to the last room that had twin beds and its own private bathroom. I think I'm starting to like being babied by the captain.

I put my duffel bag on the unclaimed bed by the window and pulled out my phone to message my girlfriend. She tends to get worried about me going off to new places. Looking up I noticed Emily placed her bag down and did the same thing as me. Only her face seemed like she was sad looking at whatever was displayed on her phone.

Once everyone got settled we all gathered in the living area that seemed smaller once 12 bodies filled the space. The girls huddled together in smaller groups and you could tell who was close with who. As the newest member I couldn't help but feel like an outcast compared to them. Emily's voice bellowed over everyone elses and grabbed the attention of them.

"So I was thinking we could all change and head down to the lake for some water frisbee" she announced to the team that seemed very excited about this idea.

Everyone eagerly went into their rooms to get ready as I slowly headed towards mine. I'm not a swimmer and don't plan on becoming one now. Emily was already getting dressed when I entered the room. I threw on a hoodie, grabbed my AirPods, and got up to leave. Before I got the chance to clear the room Emily interjected my exit.

"Hey, are you not going to swim with us?" she asked while braiding her hair. Which really defined her face and highlighted her cheekbones.

"Um no, unfortunately I don't really like swimming." I replied before slipping out the door

We headed down to the lake that had crystal clear water, and surrounded by sand mixed with rocks. They had wooden benches a few feet from the shore that seemed perfect to relax on. I took a seat trying to sunbathe in the nice June sun. The rest of the team took off into the water and started tossing a frisbee around. As much as I'd hate to admit it, this moment was almost peaceful.
