The wait until 9:00 felt like an eternity, but eventually, it came nigh. We were all prepared to do this, and we all knew what we had to do. The clock ticked down, reminding me of our transformations, Maylea started to count.
"Twenty... fifteen... ten... five. four. three. two. one."
Right when she said 'one,' the lights turned off. We decided to wait a couple more minutes for any scientists to leave the facility. Once we were sure that we were the only ones in here, we started our mission. Under Maylea's lead, we went through the hallway and into the terrarium room, grabbed the cart from the closet, and entered the terrarium. Luckily, it was empty. Sirene came to the pond as we approached it. We dipped the cart into the pond, taking in water and Sirene. We pulled the cart out of the pond and left the terrarium. We went back into the hallway, but made a right before our room. We entered a large operating room, filled with an operating table, instruments, and cages of people and animals lining the walls. I never knew how many people were here, it's absurd. We can't think about it now. We moved through the operating room and entered the emergency exit door, once we were inside the little threshold, all we had to do was open the door to the outside. We open the door and see a security guard standing there.
"What do you think you—" he screamed. I leapt onto him and bit into his neck, injecting him with venom I didn't even know I had. I'm not sure what it did but it make him limp, but it didn't kill him." I threw him into the cart with Sirene for now. We pushed the cart for a quarter of a mile until we reached the beach. We dumped Sirene and the guard into the ocean, then grabbed the guard and put him back in the cart.
"See you tomorrow?" Sirene asked.
"Definitely," we all said. She swam underwater and we went back the way we came. After a half mile of travel we made it to the edge of the jungle. We agreed to leave the cart there and Maylea will pick up the guard by his clothes and I'll take him when we find a good spot. We begin through the jungle in search of a good cave to live in. After about an hour of searching, we finally found one deep in the forest. It was surprisingly big and quite deep, so we went exploring in it. Only then did we discover that we all have night vision. We explored the cave some more and found that it ended after roughly 200 feet, so it was well deep enough. We crafted some torches and lit it up. Sarina started on her web, Maylea just relaxed, and I started working on my den. It was as simple as making it look comfortable, really. I tied the guard up in the corner. I'm not sure if he's ever gonna wake up. I check on his heart ever five minutes or so and it's still beating, so he's alive. He might just become a doorman or something.
After a great deal of renovations our cave was completed. My den in the way back, Sarina's web off in another branch of the cave and Maylea's little area near the front. She's rarely there so she's got no point in lavishing it up. With the renovations out of the way, everything was in order. I was happy, Sarina was happy, Maylea was happy, and I hope Sirene was happy, too. We'll go visit her today.
My name is Azrael. I used to be Bruce, but no longer am. I made the best decision of my life, and I've never been happier. For the first time, I felt true joy. To me, that's all I ever need.
