-writer's note-

please keep in mind that i am in no way a professional at this stuff, so my writing is flawed and might even look mediocre, but i just felt like writing about my au just so people can get invested into the story as much as i am, thanks for taking the time to read regardless :')

The moon was out, a full one. Black clouds, heavy with rain surrounded the moon in a cold, eerie embrace, letting only small beams of light shine through the dull colour every few minutes, only to be suddenly put out because of the clouds drifting over the light. A small town, built next to a large woods was silent, showing no sign of life within every inch. The only sounds that could be heard was the hard and loud hiss of the rain pouring down, drenching everything in it's path. The roads glistened as the streetlights flickered, and the water rippled with every drop of rain, creating a clear reflection on the roads and pathways. No one seemed to be outside, at least to the naked eye. At night, everyone locked themselves into their houses and turned the lights off, due to the night being the hours where vampires were most active. However, only one dared to roam the night, humanor not. A tall figure with a black cloak draped over its head walked down one of the town's streets, as an audible and wet clack came from the pavement with each step. This person seemed to be on their way home, only to stop dead in their tracks when noticing something in a nearby alleyway. Hesitating, the figure approached what seemed to be a young human girl, curled up into a ball, almost asleep against an old torn up coat which was much bigger than her. The taller person's hidden face smirked behind their hood, gradually reaching a hand up to pull it off of their head. Underneath was Sebastian Niccals, a vampire which the entire town knew of, and the entire town feared. He was the alpha, one of the longest vampires to ever live, known to kill and grow with his kind.

"Fresh meat, I see."

Sebastian mumbled to himself, as he crouched down to the young girl's level. Her tired and almost shut eyes trailed up to look at him, completely unaware that he was a vampire.

"Hello..."

Sebastian greeted with an impish chuckle, only to narrow his eyes and lips upon getting no response or even reaction from the girl.

"Ahem, I said--"

"I don't know what you want from me, but please leave me alone. I'm trying to sleep."

The girl suddenly spoke! Sebastian's breath hitched upon hearing how raspy and quiet the girl's voice was, even tilting his head towards one of his shoulders as he let out a confused "hm?"

"Where are your parents?"

Sebastian then asked, somehow feeling guilty that he even thought of drinking this girl's blood for a second. Something about her... Just reminded him so much of a woman he knew. He wouldn't hurt her. He couldn't. He's never killed a child before, which may have been another reason as to why he felt so reluctant and eventually too guilty to the point where he couldn't bare the thought of harming her.

"They were taken away by bad vampires. I could only keep my dad's coat when they left."

The girl replied, pulling said coat's hood up towards her face.

"You shouldn't be out here alone, it's dangerous. Come with me."

Sebastian surprisingly said in an instant, holding a hand out to the young girl. She sat up slowly, her own small hand reluctantly lifting itself up. She knew about stranger danger, but she also knew that she really didn't have anywhere else to go, or had anything else to do. So, she took the risk, as Sebastian suddenly pulled her forwards into his arms. She clung onto the coat in her free hand, to which Sebastian grabbed and swung over his shoulder so that the girl could hold on to him as he ran out of the alleyway, and pulled his hood back up over his head.

"What is your name?"

Sebastian asked, his arms tightly wrapped around the girl's body so that he wouldn't drop her.

"... It's Noodle."

"I'm Sebastian."

As Sebastian was running, he made sure to keep himself and Noodle covered up by his cloak, just so that no one could catch them

"Where are we going, sir?"

Noodle looked over Sebastian's shoulder, her hair now wet with her bangs flattened against her forehead. She still felt scared, yet oddly comfortable knowing that someone was so willing to take care of her. However she was still weary in case something went wrong. She watched as the flickering streetlights passed her every five or six seconds, her eyelids falling slightly due to still feeling tired despite being worked up about what was currently happening.

Around twenty minutes  had gone by before Sebastian had reached a large house with ivy draped over its walls and windows like curtains. It almost looked like a bush itself! A large dead tree loomed over the foliage covered house, which was filled with small and large bats on every branch. They could be heard whispering to each other, as some flew off of the tree and others took the empty spaces. By now, Noodle was asleep, her nose buried against Sebastian's shoulder as her arms rested limp along the other's shoulders. Sebastian was careful, yet quick to cover Noodle up completely so that the other vampires wouldn't see her, and opened up the houses' double doors with his foot. Inside was pitch black, and a few bats could be heard squeaking and flapping their wings to get away from the faint light entering the dark hallway. Sebastian flared his nostrils as he stared at the many bats curled up in their own wings, letting the doors close behind him with a long creak, then a slam whilst he walked down the hallway. The heels of his boots clicked along the marble tiles as he made his way towards the staircase in the middle of the hallway. The staircase was covered with velvet carpeting, so the sound of Sebastian's heels echoing throughout the house house suddenly halted as he made his way upstairs and towards one of the bedrooms. This room in particular wasn't in use at all, yet it was nicely decorated and had a queen sized bed in the corner.

"You'll have to settle here, for now it seems."

Sebastian whispered as he set Noodle, who was still sleeping, down onto the bed, and gently threw her dad's coat over her body so that she would stay warm. Sebastian then brought a chair over, and sat down with his arms in his lap, staring at his own hands. So many conflicted thoughts raced through his head: why did he do this? Why did he take a human into his own hands so quickly? He just couldn't bare the thought of killing her, and even leaving her behind without anyone to look after her at such a young age... However, now wasn't the time to argue with himself. Now Sebastian had to make sure this child was safe. He had to care for her and help her grow, something he hasn't done with a child in years. For now, he had to stay calm, for the sake of Noodle's safety.
