Chapter seven

"Can I get a root beer please" I write down the old man's order in my note pad before giving him a quick smile and head towards the bar.

It's a busy night seeing as it's Friday this place gets packed with people looking for a good night, but for me that just means another night complaining about sore feet and drunk idiots. I've been working here for over six months here at The Den, and I mean it's not the best job but I love it here, it's free flowing and I don't have to worry about stuck up people, everyone here is chilled and that's how i like it.

Lisa was not fond of the idea of me working at a mini restaurant, let alone working at all, it's not to far from home and school. It is a good distraction to keep me from my messed up life, but she soon accepted that I actually wanted to work to earn my own money and not have to depend on other people, not that I have anyone to depend on anyway.

"Ah if it isn't the beautiful Kelsey" Carter smiles at me as I make my way to the bar, he wraps a black apron around his waist and his blue eyes literally sparkle at me.

"Ah if it isn't the annoying Carter" I retort back at him with a roll of my eyes.

"I love our banter you know" he replies dryly snatching my note pad from me.

I lean against the counter top as I wait for him to get my order, Carter is one of my close mates we've been friends ever since I could remember, he's like a brother to me, we basically grew up together, our relationship is the best, we're those friends that tease each other but never mean it.

"Ha me too" I reply sarcastically.

"Mmm your a terrible liar and you know it" he throws back and I can't help but crack a wanted grin and he mirrors my smile.

"I guess that's one of my flaws" I pout and he chuckles shaking his brown curls. Im a woman and I won't lie but Carter is one handsome man, I mean sure I'd never date him or anything but admiring is not a problem his your typical heart breaker type of guy, blue eyes, brown curls and an impressive physique, most girls that meet him go gaga over him and I don't blame them, Carter is hot, not that I'd ever tell him, I don't see him in that way.

"Go away Kelsey" he shoves the beer into my hands and I sigh pushing myself away from the counter I march my way over to the old man that looks like he's about to pass out, adding alcohol to the mix doesn't seem like a good idea, but he shoot up when I approach him surprising me it's like he could sense the alcohol coming his way.

He snatches the cold pint and downs it like there's no tomorrow I sigh and walk back to the bar deciding to go annoy Carter for a little while. I approach him again while he prepares a beverage for the lady basically undressing him with her eyes, her tiny dress barely covering her boobs let alone her ass, she leans over the counter causing her dress to go up an inch or two, Carter looks like he wants to die, and I can't help but laugh when I see the strained look on his face. He wants out.

He makes eye contact with me when he hears my laugh and I can't stop my snorts of laughter when I see the pleading look in his eyes. I stop laughing and decide to help the guy, funny how he's always in these situations and I'm always there to help.

"Hello babe" I grin at him as I finally reach the bar.

"Hey love I've missed you" Carter replys back and I see the relief flood his blue eyes, that I actually came to his rescue.

"Do we have a problem here"? I question, stopping next to the woman, she looks me up and down in disgust then smiles at Carter.

"Nothing at all, isn't that right handsome?" she runs her hand down Carters arm and I swear I saw him flinch, I hold back my laugh and look at the woman again she doesn't even give me a small glance.
