Chapter 15: Fight for Our Right
People were scrambling all around the Pentagon. Phones were ringing off the hook, men running back and forth, papers flying everywhere. Inside the Missile Control Room, the President of the United States of America, Richard Hernández, was furious as to how this could happen. An aged man of fifty, his dark brown hair was graying at his sides. His sun kissed face was clean shaven, with laugh lines around his eyes. But this day, he was not laughing. He laced his weathered, callused hands as his administrators and generals were trying to explain the situation to him and the Cabinet, as well as the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
"President Hernández, it's a disaster! Our allies have launched a joined, unprovoked ballistic assault! Our generals had no choice to launch a counterstrike."
"But have we not had calls from embassies and those countries themselves? Saying that they did not authorize those launches?"
"Whether or not they deny it, the evidence is obvious! The missiles are flying, and the launch codes for them are genuine, inputted in their respective countries."
The President sighed, then massaged his brow.
"Are the countermeasures we launched enough to repel the attack, at least?"
"I'm afraid not, Mr. President. With however many slip past, considerable destruction will occur. We need to warn the populace."
"Alright, organize the army to begin evacuation. Everyone has to get out of the cities, or underground. Also, call an emergency meeting of the world leaders. We need to get to the bottom of this immediately. Sad to say, I hope this a terrorist plot and not an end to a decade of peace between nations!"
The President and his men got up from the table they were sitting at. As the President turned to leave, he turned back to his men.
"Is there any new information about the masked heroes? The ones who saved the school."
"Nothing, Mr. President. Do you believe them to have a part in this?"
"The opposite. I would've hoped that, with their abilities, they could help revert this disaster. But perhaps, this is too big, even for them."
...
"He's freakin' insane!" Abby said as she struggled against her bonds. "We need to stop this now!"
"I might have a way." Theo whispered. "Miko, feel the heel of my boot."
Miko did as instructed, and found a loose piece of leather in Theo's right shoe. Feeling inside, she discreetly pulled out a pair of tweezers and a hair pin. Understanding, she passed them to Theo, who then used the improvised tools to uncuff Miko and Abby.
"You forget, my dad's a locksmith." Theo said with a chuckle.
"That's great, Bruce, but will those work on the collars?" Abby asked.
"No, but your collars only work for your powers."
"I do not understand." Miko said.
"Your bio-suits, they think it's part of your powers. Show 'em they're wrong."
Abby and Miko smiled at their plan as they stood up and yelled to get the attention of their guards. Though their bullets wouldn't break the glass, the guards trained their guns as Miko and Abby willed their suits to form. The energy veins of their suits glowed, which caught the twitchy eye of Dr. Gene.
"I-i-i-impossible! G-g-g-guards!"
The doctor punched some commands on his tablet, which caused a wall to come down from the ceiling, separating the lab from the control room. At the same time, one wall of the cell slid down, exposing the teens. As the guards were about to fire, Swiftshock and Godai leapt in front of Val and Theo. The girls braced themselves as the guards fired, their bullets having no effect. The guards looked at each other, then ran away.
