"We're making eggs."Kineta grinned at the memory of Mai's stunned expression. She was perplexed that he'd choose something so simple.
"Any eggs. As long as it's good."
They had started cooking three minutes ago and the tension between them was starting to suffocate Kineta. Mai was cooking a simple omelet whilst Kineta decided to make Onsen Tamago. He remembered enjoying it whilst he was in Japan.
"Fuck, I forgot something. Can you move for a bit?" he asked, pointing to the shelf that was covered by Kineta's legs.
"No. That's your fault. You're just distracting me."
Kineta raised his brows before he shrugged it off. He was anxious to lose but arguing would be futile. He sighed frustratedly before he fixed back onto his eggs.
Suddenly, the door to his bedroom opened and Brownie came like a burst of energy.
Kineta felt a pinch on his shoulder. "Kineta," she whispered harshly.
He hid his smile. "You're just distracting me."
Mai scooted closer as she puffed her cheeks, attempting to focus on the pan.
Brownie sat beside her, causing her to flinch.
"She's not going to do anything," Kineta chuckled.
Mai tensed when Brownie moved closer to her. The latter stuck out its tongue and pressed it on Mai's ankle, causing her to jump in shock before running away. "Kin!"
Mai hid behind the island as Brownie followed her.
"Your egg is going to get overcooked," Kineta chimed.
Mai shrieked as Brownie ran after her.
"Fuck! Kin, I swear to God."
Kineta hummed in response, amused at their exchange. Brownie was being such a good girl. He might give her extra treats after this.
He took the item he forgot from the shelf, smiling victoriously.
They both knew who won.
Mai stared at her overcooked eggs in distaste before her gaze drifted to Kineta. They've decided to try their competitor's creation first before their own.
Mai hadn't spoken to him ever since he placed Brownie back in his room. She watched as he swallowed her eggs, despite it seeming horrific. "It's good."
Mai furrowed her brows. "I thought you're not a liar."
Kineta paused and graced her with a quirk of his lips. "Everyone has their own preferences."
Mai shook her head, ceasing herself from smiling. He was so charmingly cheeky. She should've hated all the stupid shit he said.
But she didn't.
She took a bite of his eggs and, admittedly, it wasn't that terrible. She actually liked it.
He didn't need to know that though.
Kineta took a spoonful of her eggs and stretched his arm across the table. "You want to try?"
Mai's face scrunched before she leaned forward and ate his offering. It was so awful that it burnt her tongue. She willed herself to swallow it. "How could you eat that?"
Kineta grinned. "Good taste is relative."
Mai paused before she took some of his eggs in her spoon. She pondered if she should do the same. After a while, she extracted her arm in his direction, her features stern. "I'm not feeding you so just take-"
Before she was able to finish, he placed his hand on top of hers and navigated it to his lips. His hand was large compared to hers and it engulfed her in a warm embrace. He kept hold of it as he swallowed the food.
"I should've added more a little more salt."
He released her and she immediately retracted, cheeks blossomed.
Her skin tingled from his touch as he resumed eating as if nothing happened. She placed her foot on top of his, placing slight pressure.
Kineta raised his brows. "Are you displeased?"
"Shut up."
