chapter 10 - head on lockers
sunday, 2/8/2020

Mai endured Rod's possessive embraces, hoping that she wouldn't have to face Kineta.

This morning, she had woken up in his apartment with a note that said how exhausted she looked and that she should've skipped the first few periods to take some rest.

She was terrified that she had to attend school before meeting him.

And luck was obviously not on her side when Rod found her first.

"Now, stand there and look pretty for me, yeah?" Rod whispered in her ear menacingly.

"Fuck, Man. Did you see the new girl?" Ryan asked beside them.

"What new girl?" Francis replied.

"You haven't seen her? Damn. I swear to God, twelve people are already simping for her."

"Oh. That one? But I heard she's the high school sweetheart in her last school so I don't think anyone's going to get her."

"A man can dream," Ryan sighed dreamily.

Rod furrowed his brows. "Who are you talking about?"

Ryan faced him. "The new girl. I think her name's Azli or something. Wait. Is it?" He scratched his neck. "Anyway, I don't think you'd be interested in her. You guys are dating, right?"

Rod grinned, pulling Mai onto him. The latter held onto her urge to grimace. "Yeah. Isn't that right, Sweetie?" he asked her in a husky voice.

She hummed in affirmation, repelled. Mai thought he sounded like an old man.

"Yeah. No one was surprised," Ryan dismissed. "Plus, the new girl caught everyone's attention so no one really cared, anyway."

Suddenly, Ryan's eyes widened. "Kineta! What are you doing here?"

Kineta drew his brows, perplexed. "I was waiting for you guys in the basketball court but none of you came-" His gaze caught Mai's before it drifted to Rod. "Why are you holding her like that."

"Because she's my girlfriend. Who the fuck are you?"

Mai avoided Kineta's stare.

"Oh. You guys look cute together," he said, uninterested. "Tell me when you guys are ready, yeah? I'm going to eat Ramen with Vivi."

Mai clenched her fist. Who was Vivi?

Kineta looked at it fleetingly, brow raised. "Is something wrong, Maia?"

"No."

Ryan and Francis looked at each other nervously.

Rod slammed Mai onto the lockers, jaw clenched. "I went through all that fucking trouble for what, huh?" He pulled her towards him and shoved her into the lockers once more. "All that just for some sophomore to become fucking jealous? You fucking whore!"

"It's not my fault someone else caught their attention," Mai stated, disregarding the pain in her head.

He slapped her across her cheek. "It was because you weren't fucking hot enough!"

He released her when he heard patters of footsteps. "Oh. I didn't see the both of you here," Azli chimed. She was wearing their uniform with all the buttons tied and her short hair pulled onto a low bun.

Her eyes were widened in a seemingly innocent expression, lips stretched slightly with a tint of red in her cheeks. "You guys must be the new couple!" she chirped. "So adorable."

Rod chuckled, approaching her. "Oh. Her? She's just someone I know."

Azli furrowed her brows, peering up at him. "Oh? Ryan told me you both started dating today," she questioned, voice soft.

"Ryan probably wanted to keep you to himself," Rod hissed to himself.

"What was that?"

Rod shook his head assuringly. "Nothing."

Azli cleared her throat. "I'm sorry. My throat is a bit dry at the moment."

"Do you want me to buy you a drink?" Rod offered.

Azli paused. "I don't want to trouble you-"

"You're not troubling me at all! Honestly."

"Oh. I have to meet up with my Language teacher, though. Would it be okay if you dropped it off on my Homeroom?"

Rod nodded. "Sure. You can come to me for anything."

"Thank you so much!" Azli's brows raised elatedly. "You're so nice. How could I repay you?"

Mai watched their interaction, the pain in her head slowly dominating her body as she weakened.

"You can repay me by coming to the party on Wednesday."

"Sure!"

Mai dropped to the ground, blood dripping from her head.
