"Good Morning Sunshine!"
Groaning in protest, Pursuit squeeze be eye shut tight when she felt the blinding sun of the early morning hit her eyelids.
After a few seconds she tried to open he eye slightly, only to find a grinning Sirius and James standing by her bedside with a tray of scramble eggs and a glass of fresh orange juice.
"Woahhh," exclaimed Pura in a rough morning voice, "Is it my birthday or do you just love me that much?"
The boys smile even brighter if that was possible, before Sirius could comprehend a response James spoke up for him, "Well assuming it isn't your birthday I think that question answers itself," he answered with a cheeky wink.
Both Sirius and Pura were completley taken off guard by the comment but regained conpusure quickly, both collectively deciding to ignore it for the time being. James seemed even more shocked than the two combined, obviously not expecting himself to be so forward in such a manner, awkwardly be cleared his throat and placed the tray down on the wooden, chest of drawers next to the single bed.
Looking around the room with an apprehensive glint in his eye, he seemed to feel slightly uncomfortable, so with a final nod to Pura and a Pat on the shoulder to his brother, James edge out of the room. The pitter patterning of feet became fainter and fainter until a door close gently at the end of the Hall.
Silence was he across the room, Sirius was still standing now with his hands stuffed in his pockets, a far off look in his eye. Pura felt wrecked, physically of course, he body was still aching and her ankle was throbbing, but mentally her pain far surpassed anything she had felt before.
Remus, her big brother, best friend since she was born, was probably in another room blaming himself for everything that has happened in the past eleven years because she wasn't strong enough to face he problems alone.
Regulus, the bestest friend anyone could ask for, her other half, had been witnessing his parents torture and manipulation innocents people, his own family, even him! For Merlin knows how long and she had no idea despite all the signs being there.
Sirius, the brother she didn't know she needed, she lived Remus with all her heart but Sirius can relate to he and help her in ways that Remus couldn't, the purest soul alive, had been suffering the wrath of the woman who gave birth to him and the man he should've idolised since he had a conscience. Something inside her was screaming "I knew it!" but something else is whispering "you should've known". Those two brothers had always been there for her and how did she repay them? By getting them disowned.
Peter, poor, underestimated, brilliant Peter who has been another brother figure to her ever since she began Hogwarts. The look on his face when he saw Pura coming up the stairs, the sheer terror, that was her fault. The sweetest most cheerful boy reduced to tears because of her, after everything he's done for her.
And the Potter's, taking her in unannounced despite knowing nothing about her, fixing up her injuries and offering her comfort when she had done nothing but barge in and destroy their peaceful abode. Merlin could she be anymore of a life-wrecker?
"I see that look in your eye," said Sirius, sitting at the foot of her bed, "I first felt it in the train station when we met on the platform at the beginning of your first year. I felt a sense of familiarity around you, after time I have just assumed it was some kind of brotherly instinct that was predicting your friendship with Regulus. Now I know that we have both been in similar situations regarding our families, our whole lives practically, and that's what I felt with you, the connection. When I first came to the Potter's house, I felt out of place, like an intruder. James told me I had the same look in my eye that you do now. Thinking it's your fault and that you're better off leaving, like you're a burden to everyone you meet. James taught me that it wasn't true, and eventually I found my true family, in the Potter's, the Marauders, Regulus and you, you're all my family even if not all of us are related, and you can never burden family. Neither do you. You're our family, Remus was upset that you never told him, I was too, Peter was, everyone, not at you though- the fact that you went through that thinking it would cause problems to us if you told us, we don't blame you for not speaking up."
"I caused you all so much pain, I thought I was being brave and protecting you all, I really thought that if ever I was to do a good thing in my life then this would be it. As usual I was wrong and I ended up hurting all of you which is the last thing I wanted to do. Remus is blaming himself, you and Regulus ended up being tortured by your own parents and having to run away from home, poor Peter will be wishing it upon himself and James- well I don't really know, but either way this will have impacted his family, your family, in one of the worst ways possible and it's because of me. It's my fault, it was different with you because as soon as you came to Hogwarts you found three people who became your brothers in addition to Reg, I didn't. Regulus is my best friend and I consider him to be a brother of mine too but the feeling dint mutual and therefore-"
"You truly are oblivious Little Lupin, Regulus views you as a sister, you should have heard him at home during holidays, the way his eyes would light up as he spoke of his new best friend, how amazing and genuine she was, how he knew once I met her how I would come to view her just the same- and I did. You are Remus' little sister by blood, but you are also mine and Regulus' and Peter's too. You are a part of this family and James would most definitely agree because although you don't know each other as well- he knows how much we treasure you and that is enough for him and Euphemia and Fleamont to call you family too."
Pura sniffled meekly, she knew who her family was- who they always had been. Her best friend since she was born who had been through the toughest situations with her and always had her back, her soulmate- the one who had known everything at all times and she likewise to him, they were inseparable and would always be so. Her brothers, her newfound brothers who had unknowingly taken her under their wing and cared for her as their own despite the small age difference. And now the Potters, who probably hadn't even known of her existence until now and they were claiming her to be their own family, there were people that cared. Used to the neglect and shunning from her blood parents she had become one with the idea that no one could really care, but they did.
Shaking out of her thoughts, Pura smiled a real and genuine smile and pulled Sirius in for a hug, "Thank You, Sirius, Thank you,"
Sirius readily returned the hug, smiling softly with a chuckle, "Anytime, Little Sister. Now, eat up! We have a long day ahead of us seen as you are feeling better". After a few more words were exchanged, Sirius left the room, leaving Pura to finish up her glorious food and get dressed.
Pura expected to walk down the stairs with an unintentional dramatic entrance like in the films, and to some degree it was dramatic, but not in the sense that as soon as she crossed the kitchen threshold everyone turned to stare at her- conversations halted.
In fact she was so quiet that no one noticed her until Regulus stood up to get a glass of water and noticed her. The poor boy looked on the verge of tears after he saw her but he walked over to her and hugged her softly. No words needed. When they broke apart, the other occupants of the room were already smiling at the pair.
Mrs Potter guided her towards the table and offered her some coffee which she was thankful for as she was, despite sleeping for a whole day at the least, completely knackered.
The day following was as Sirius said, eventful. They ventured into the Potter's garden and played several games both muggle and magic, always bearing in mind to not be too aggressive yet as the Black Brothers and Pura were all still fairly sore.
The day passed in a flash and before they knew it they were sitting back at the Dining Hall table enjoying a scrumptious dinner cooked by Fleamont- who was quite possibly the best cook Pura had ever met.
At the end of the night Pura found herself thinking back on the day, the newfound friend she had made in James- the support of Euphemia and Fleamont and the all round welcoming atmosphere. Pura wondered why she ever doubted that these people were her true family.
These were the beautiful thoughts that lulled her to sleep that night, everyone in the house- even those with regular nightmares- had a wonderfully resting slumber, almost as if a magical presence was calming them all.
