The forest was ablaze, the Luna trying to make her way through the shrubs — one hand on her belly the other pushing away the branches blocking her view. At eight and a half months she could have this baby right here, in the middle of the woods, with her current movements.

But she willed her little girl to stay put, she was almost free. She could feel the mate pull once more so she knew she was close, she knew she was almost home. She clenched her hands trying to bring forth any ounce of magic left but her body was still too drugged, her blood empty.

She was as defenceless as a human being.

She could feel her mate trying to push through their link but somehow it still wasn't connecting fully. She rubbed her belly trying to draw some magic from her baby girl, "Please baby, mommy needs you."

'Ayanda!? Honey, where are you? There's too much smoke, I can barely see. Where are you?'

She nearly broke down in tears at the sound of her mates voice, it had worked her baby had not only helped the Luna but herself too.

'I'm close, I'm coming — I promise, we're coming.'

The tree line was nearing and she could hear the thundering steps of her pack, relief swept over her and that was her first mistake. Just as she had made it out of the burning forest a cold hand slipped around her neck, pulling her back. The hand hardened around her jugular and she momentarily chokes.

The momentum of her run and the sudden pull towards the freezing body applying too much pressure to her larynx. The minuscule coughing fit enough to gain the attention of the few wolves that had been out there.

In no time they had linked their Alpha, informing him that the Luna was back although accompanied by a blood sucking corpse.

She could hear him before she could see him, "Right on time." The vampire hissed, pure joy dripping from his words.

His body tingled with the joyful sensation, he never intended to harm the Luna — never. He could care less about her, all he wanted to do was cause a frenzy to the pack and to the Alpha.

The vampires father and the Alpha had known each other for hundreds of years although the relationship turned sour in the past few years. The young vampire instantaneously despising the Alpha once the seniors' relationship got bad.

Upon arrival the Alpha immediately shifts back into his human form and approaches the two, "Let her go, Zolani. This isn't your fight."

The vampire lets out a smooth laugh, "Oh, Alpha, always so temperamental. I'll hand her over soon, I just need to give her a parting gift."

As fast as a blink, the vampire had sunk his teeth into the Luna's mark. By the time anyone could register what had happened, the Luna has her hands on her neck as blood trickled down. And just as fast as the rising of eyelids the vampire had disappeared into the trees.

Her screams of fright and terror the only sounds that could be heard, her magic clicking back far too late. The skies above shifted and altered as her cries rang in the open field, the thunder trumbled and the lightning threatened to strike any soul.

The Alpha scooped his Luna into his arms just as she muttered, "She's coming."

Her water had broke.
