Kageyama leapt up from the stairs, running down the street. He had to get to the hospital, immediately. Sure, it was late at night, and it was past visitor hours, but he had to get to Hinata. He had to get to his soulmate.
His chest burned, and his legs felt weak, but he couldn't stop. The sooner he got there, the better. Hinata would finally be with someone. Hinata would be past whatever was going on with him these last few months. He could finally go home.
Kageyama stopped in the lobby, trying to catch his breath. He couldn't stop now, he had to continue. "Is there a problem?" One of the nurses asked, coming up to him. "I need to see Hinata. It's urgent." "I'm sorry, but visiting hours are over." "Please. I'm his soulmate." "That's not possible." "Look at my wrist! It's his name on it. I really need to see him. I can make him better."
"What's going on?" A doctor walked over. "This boy is claiming to be Hinata's soulmate." "I'm not claiming! It's on my wrist. Happened ten minutes ago. I just turned sixteen. I am his soulmate, whether you want to believe it or not." "It looks legit. We'll try it. Maybe this will get rid of it." "What is it?" "We're not sure yet. We've been doing what he could, but we have no idea how it works." "I can fix it."
The doctor lead Kageyama to Hinata's room, knocking on the door. A quiet 'come in' was uttered, and Kageyama opened the door. Hinata was standing by the window still, bathed in moonlight. He was a little thinner than Kageyama remembered, but otherwise he looked fine.
"Hinata." Kageyama sighed, hurrying over to the smaller boy and pulling him into a hug. "Kageyama? What are you doing here?" "Check your wrist, dumbass." Hinata furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, looking down at his wrist. The wrist that had been blank since he was born. The wrist that now had bold black letters on it.
Hinata gasped, backing up against the wall. He didn't understand. "W- how?" He stammered. "I turned sixteen. Your name appeared on my wrist. Since it's on mine, my name had to be on yours. You have no idea how long I've waited for this." Kageyama smiled, pulling Hinata into a hug again.
Hinata hugged back, eyes wide as tears filled them. He…had a soulmate? He wasn't alone? Was Kageyama really his? No, this had to be a dream. This had to be another dream that he'd wake up from and feel even more alone.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Kageyama asked, pulling back slightly. "This is a dream, right? I'm just going to wake up, and you'll be gone. This is just another dream." Hinata turned around, hiding his face from Kageyama. "It's not a dream, Hinata. It's real. You sent me the box of milk cartons, remember? Your mom brought them to the party, because you were here. C'mon, dumbass, you really think this is a dream?" "I don't know. I don't know what to think." Hinata whimpered, hiding his face in his hands.
"Then think about me. How can I prove to you that this isn't a dream?" "I don't know. It's too much, too much." Hinata sobbed, sliding to the ground. Kageyama knelt with him, keeping his arms around the older. "It's okay, Hinata. Take as much time as you need. I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere."
Kageyama pulled Hinata into his lap, holding him as he cried. He really couldn't blame Hinata for reacting this way. Thinking you were soulmateless for months, then suddenly finding out you have one? That would rock anybody.
After a few minutes, Hinata started calming down. "Feeling better?" Kageyama asked, brushing the hair out of his face. "Yeah. I am." "Good. Want to talk now?" "Not really. I don't want to wake up." "This isn't a dream, boke. If it was, you probably would've woken up by now, with all that crying." "Shut up." Hinata giggled, wiping away the tears.
Kageyama kissed Hinata's forehead, cupping his face. After all that time of secretly yearning for the shrimp, he finally had him. Hinata was his forever. That sounded good to him. Hinata was his forever.
