Coming For You

Chapter Seven

Cash couldn't handle it much longer. He hangs up the phone and sits on his recliner. He rethinks the conversation he just had. "I still want her." He just can't take it anymore. Mikayla is hurt and John is missing. He could have stopped everything that happened, but didn't. Cash gets up from his chair and starts to pace around the living room. What he doesn't know is Kent is on the steps watching him.

"Why couldn't I stop it? Why? Now John, Alicia, and Mikayla is in danger and could be killed." He walks by the entry to the living room finally noticing Kent on the steps. Kent looks very confused at the moment. Cash walks over to him. "Hey, uh why don't we go out for ice cream c'mon." Kent looks at his older brother and replies, "Okay." He jumps down from the steps and runs toward the truck. Cash walks outside slowly. He just can't get the thoughts out of his head. Cash hopes this will help him. He hops in the truck and notices Kent has a huge smile on his face. "I hope you keep staying happy, no matter what. Sadness isn't very fun." Kent looks over at Cash and still has a smile on his face. "Yes sir." Cash smiles back and backs out of the driveway.

 At the ice cream place, Cash orders him and Kent banana splits. They sit down at a table there to eat at. Cash finds it hard to take a first bite.

As the two brothers continue to eat their ice cream, a truck pulls up beside them. "Cash," somebody says after. Cash turns and sees Mikayla and Alicia. He quickly turns back to Kent. Kent sees them and waves. "Hi!" Mikayla walks over to Kent and gives him a high five. "Hey." Kent smiles at both her and Alicia. Mikayla looks over at Cash. "How are you?" Cash hesitates a little before he looks at Mikayla. "What's wrong?" she asks him noticing his strange behavior. Kent looks at his brother concerned. Cash doesn't respond to Mikayla. "Cash." Cash looks down at his banana split. "Kent, finish this," he says as he pushes it to his brother then looks back at Mikayla. "It's kind of hard to explain. Mikayla sits beside him. "Can you tell me part of it?"

Cash looks into Mikayla's eyes. He feels tears threatening to fall. "I...I...can't." Cash jumps up and pulls Kent toward the truck. Kent is still eating the banana split as he gets into the truck. Cash says nothing more as he gets into the truck and drives out of the parking lot. Mikayla looks over at Alicia. "He went the back road driving too fast," Mikayla says. "I'm gonna go try to catch up to them." Mikayla races over to her truck as Alicia sits in the passenger. Mikayla pulls out and heads the same way Cash and Kent went. She prays silently they will find them quickly.

Cash keeps looking back in his rearview mirror as he flies down the road. Just as he thinks he is in the clear, he hears Mikayla's truck behind him. Suddenly remembering that phone call from earlier, Cash starts to slow down. Mikayla slows down and pulls behind him when he completely stops. Cash takes a deep breath and tells Kent to get out in the back of the truck. Cash gets out and stand by the truck bed. "What's wrong?" Mikayla asks Cash again. Cash gives her a straight face. "Why did you follow me?" he asks. Mikayla moves closer to him. "Going that speed you were at on this road is basically a death sentence. I wanted to make sure you wouldn't crash. Then if you did, I would be here to help you and Kent," Mikayla explains. "I don't need your help," Cash says. Mikayla backs up a little toward Alicia. "Are you sure? I'm...We're here for you and Kent." Mikayla steps closer to him again. Cash goes to the cab of his truck. He glances over at Mikayla and Alicia who are still standing there. Cash sighs and starts to feel tears coming as he grabs something out of the truck.

Mikayla and Alicia quickly find theirselves, yet again, at the wrong end of a gun. Mikayla walks to Alicia again. "Cash...what are you doing?" Cash steps closer to Alicia and Mikayla. Alicia moves in front of Mikayla a little bit. "Put the gun down Cash." Alicia and Mikayla notice tears coming down his face. Cash wipes the tears away. "I'm not going to shoot. Just get in the truck. It will be a whiole lot better for everyone." Cash puts the gun down. "Get in my truck, please."
