                                                                                    Li Zhu's P.O.V

As I fell asleep, I lost my consciousness and swam into something so deep and unreachable that I felt I would never return back to the shore. I felt out of breath and lost all my senses. My mouth was dry, my eyes were almost feeling blank like I had gone blind, my ears were buzzing and I was choking on the suffocating smell  of Sulphur Dioxide. Gradually, all my senses flowed in, the sweet smell of osmanthus with an unknown aroma filled into my lungs, a bitter taste of medicine filled my mouth. My skin felt a cool breeze which brought me back to a deep slumber. After a few hours, I opened my eyes with bright light hitting my eyes. My eyes squinted to get adjusted to the light and the new atmosphere around me. I did not expect to see what I saw.

The room was filled with people. they were all wearing flowing gowns with their long hair tidily tied up with ornaments. They were all beautiful and were dressed in the traditional hanfu type of clothes. Then my eyes shot a glance around the room. The room was filled with eloquent furniture. Tables and small tools and chests were made of rosewood. Small porcelain bowls were placed near a table placed close to me. My eyes shifted to the woman next to me whose eyes lit up as I looked at her. She was beautiful and her face had a mark of nobility. She also wore simple clothes but looked so elegant and well composed. Her skin was clear and her lips broadened into a serene smile.

"You have a habit of making us worried during the most serious situations. We were almost scared of losing you at this crucial time." She said with a soothing smile on her face. Her voice was so comforting but I just looked at her with the most confused expression.

"Why am I..." I abruptly stopped as I could not believe that my voice sounded so weird.

She with a sigh replied by saying, "You were at the market with me when you suddenly started suffocating and lost consciousness. Your pulse had also stopped and I thought I lost- " and then she stopped there, avoiding her voice to break.

"Who..who are you...and where am I...who am I supposed to be?" I said.

Her expression changed and her smile dropped. She looked at me in dismay and lost her composure and said, "You! Forgot me? I-"

She cooled herself a little and calmly said, " My name is Li Hua, your sister. You are Li Mei. We live in the Li Mansion. " I point at the women who have surrounded me and said, " Jiějiě,(elder sister) who are these people?

She again just stared at me in disbelief. I connected the dots finally; so, I am a daughter of a noble in Ancient China and this woman who is staring at me in total dismay is supposedly my sister. The women who were surrounding us were attendants, the room was mine and all I realized was that I might have just been picked up from my bed and been put in a drama's set.

But I was wrong. I too was wearing a traditional hanfu dress which was elegant and bright. It was plain white with some embroidery done on it. I asked many questions to my sister and the others kept on answering. I did not want them to be suspicious and therefore strictly talked in pure Chinese. It was all a great realization. I was someone else now.

Li Hua and the others explained that I, being a daughter of the noble, should get married to one of the princes of the empire or any noble clan. Sister Hua was already married to a duke whose name I didn't quite catch, so the next in line was me. I was in utter shock and denial that a 17-year old girl will have to get married to someone. Also, someone who I don't even know. I protested about me getting married at such a young age, but the others said that I was rather lucky to get married at the age of 19* as my sister had already gotten married at 15. Then I realised the weightage of the situation. It wasn't the current 21st century, where we could have the liberty to choose. So I just shut my mouth. I eventually with a lot in my head and my heart got out of my bed. I almost was about to leave the room to explore the mansion when I saw a brass mirror.

That woman in the mirror wasn't me. I mean she was but she also wasn't. Her face was refined and beautiful. Though she looked ill, she had an essence of maturity. She looked more like a fine lady with the magnificent robes she was wearing. Though she looked and had the same features as Li Zhu, she was a whole class apart. She of course was Li Mei.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
